It would have been nice to get a reply to this, I too am looking for the same part. Why are these made of plastic, and seem to be cheap, or easily broken.

Parts yard, ebay, Craigslist, or the 'Buy, Sell, Trade' forums here on CF.

Whats wrong with the harness? Burned or cut/hacked wiring, or broken connectors? Depending which, it should be an easy fix.

I would like to know what is wrong with it too.
The complete harness is available on Ebay.
Couple things.
On an '00 there are 2. CA Emissions ones with 4 O2 sensors and Federal Emissions ones with 2 O2 sensors.
So you have to make sure you buy the right one.
Also this this huge.
Starts at the computer. Has 2 of those 3 connectors on it.
Runs up the driver's fender around the firewall.
Has all the fuel injector connectors on it.
And runs down from the back of the engine cause the CPS connector is on it and all the O2 sensor connectors.
Replacing this with the engine in should be "fun".
I took one out of a '00 XJ with Federal Emissions in the boneyard.
Spent 3 days doing it. About an 1 1/2 to 2 hours after work each day.
Engine was in and to make it more fun the Jeep had no tires on it and was on the ground.
But I was taking my sweet time.

This is a CA Emissions one.

https://www.ebay.com/itm/00-Jeep-Che...EAAOSwvxNdjNak

I wouldn't pay this much. I want to say that the usual going rate for this on Ebay is more like $100 to $110.

Thank you Ralph77. I'll talk to my mechanic about this. The fuel injection wiring harness melted. My mechanic actually cut off the melted section and pieced it back together. There's an interesting YouTube on upgrading this model's fuel injectors: "

" ~ really curious about doing this. It seems this fuel injection problem is in models 99-01. Chrysler evidently designed different injection system on these particular Cherokee models.

Kind of figured it was something that would not require replacing the whole harness.
fb97xj1 probably thought the same too.
What I think you might be referring to is that they swapped connectors on the harness.
Called EV1 and EV6. There are no fuel injection problems on '99 to '01 that I am aware of.
So you would need to buy the injectors with the correct connector.
Plenty of write ups on this. Google search will come up with plenty for you read.
Here is something to get you started and talks about the connectors in the beginning.

WOW, thanks

WOW!
Thanks, I wish I would have had this kind of response to my previous thread.

History: The month of SEP2019 my wife's car blew the rear diff., my primary mode of trans is a BMW adventure bike, that too it totaled, my daughter totaled her car and I lost a crown my dentist want's 2K to fix. I had to pull this 01 XJ out of storage and began to get it back on the road, it was my sons high school car.
A new radiator first off, and windshield. I then replaced all the fluids, filters, and plugs. Once complete I had a misfire on cyl. 6. I replaced the ignition coil, still misfire on cyl. 6, so I replaced the fuel injectors. I then had a misfire on 6 and 3, I pulled the coil reset the 6 and 3 plugs, and re-installed the coil, now misfire on 3. I examined the wiring harness and noticed the plastic protective cover is cracked above the 3rd injector and the red lock on the connector to injector 3 is broken, although the electrical part still locks in place.
I am running out of stuff to repair/replace, not to mention money, on this and now my wife is asking for a divorce because I spend too much time working on my FJ40, motorcycle, trailer....and now an old Jeep. I'm heading to the junk yard today to try and pull one, maybe ill get lucky.

I'll also be stopping by my mechanic on the way to confirm whether or not I'm an idiot.

So any/all advice is welcome, even if it has nothing to do with fixing the XJ.

Red locking tab does not matter. All mine broke during the 4 hole injector install. 20 year old brittle plastic and all. My guess is there more for manufacturing. So connectors don't get pulled apart as it goes down the line.
When you say plastic cover. Are you talking about the black plastic cover that the wires run in? If so that doesn't matter.
Curious what plugs you are using. When you say reset guessing you mean pulled and put back in. Did you put them back in where they came out of?
Have you inspected the wiring in the black plastic cover? Have checked the voltage going to the injectors?
Going to have to Google around for how to and what the specs should be.

agree, I wasn't too worried about this but wanted to make sure everything was communicated.

Yes, that is exactly what I am speaking about. I did not think the cover mattered too much, but was concerned there might be damage underneath it. [/QUOTE]

AC Delco, purchased from O'reilly's auto, those are what their system showed to be optimal plugs.

I removed the plugs, cleaned them off of what little oil and dirt was on them and put them back in, These are the new plugs, so there wasn't much to clean. I also made sure the the rubber sleeve on the coil had a good connection before tightening it into place.
Yes, I did put them back in the same cyl location I removed them from. Based on your question I am now thinking I should have swapped the plug(s) with other cyl. that were not misfiring, therefore eliminating the plug being bad. I will have to test that later today.

yes, it appears to be undamaged.

No, I have a multimeter and can perform this test later today. To confirm this process: pull the connector to the injector, use the multi meter on the connector and ground, correct? questions: what setting on the mm should I use? what should i be looking for as far as output?

I hope I addressed everything correctly, thank you for you assistance.

I am probably going to catch some flack for this but I run Champion Copper Tops, 438's, in my '00.
It is all I will run.
Never have tried any other kind of plug.
And never will.
She likes them and that is good enough for me.

I don't know how to test the injectors and connectors.
Seen it explained plenty of times.
Figure if and when I have to will just research it.

Well it sound like you are heading in the right direction.
Check the gap just for ****s and giggles.
Might want to check the coil too.
I believe that I have seen a way to test it with a multi-meter on the internet also.
What brand on that?
Would not be the first time a part was bad out of the box.

Sorry to hijack this but did you notice a difference after installing the 4 hole ones? Which ones did you buy and from who? I'm thinking this may be my next project. Thanks

I went a different route then most people. An this is rather embarrassing so I don't mention it much.
Little back story. One of the customers of the auto parts store I work at is an engine rebuilder. Pretty much the go to place in the area for the big block, high horsepower builds. The owner's son owned an '00 like me. We would talk "Jeep" sometimes. They did a little something to the engine in that. So they mentioned the new 4 hole injectors that they purchased for the Jeep. Assured me they would be fine in a stock motor.
Well it was from here:

https://www.injector.com/cart/pc/home.asp

Now for the embarrassing part.
It cost me $330, with tax, for brand new 4 hole injectors.
Now new one hole injectors through the store would have cost me about the same. And we all know the ones you can buy online are at least half that if not less.
But I justified it like this. They are brand new. Also this place is literally 15 minutes from home. So I figure if I ever have a problem it will be easy to take care of.
5 years later and still all is good. I don't regret spending the money one bit.

So the butt dyno wants to say the is Jeep peppier. Seem to idle and run smoother. Did not really notice any increase in gas mileage. At least around town. On the highway
I can do as well as 22 MPG. But never calculated what it was before the swap. Jeep was still kind of new to me and was less comfortable doing longer trips with it.
As time went on I got over it and will drive the Jeep where ever. LOL

People have stated, and I kind of agree with this, the improvements you do see are really not because of the 4 hole injectors but just the simple fact that you have fresh ones
that don't have 150K on them.

The following users liked this post:

What is a fuel injector harness?

The injector harness connects directly to the injector connector on the main harness. It allows you to configure any main harness to work with the most common injector type and quantities with a simple snap-in (4-Cylinder Bosch, 8-Cylinder EV6, etc.)

What gauge is fuel injector wire?

12V for fuel injectors: use a 14 AWG connected to a 40A relay. For up to 4 injectors, a 20A fuse is recommended. For up to 8 injectors, a 30A fuse is recommended.
