Discussion Starter · #1 · Sep 7, 2009 I tried search without any luck. Is there any way to access the high mount 3rd brake light on my 06 EX Coupe to replace the bulb? The sub seems to be in the way and there is no easy access. Do I have to take it to the dealer to replace a simple bulb??

i've taken the cover off once and it was a *****. the second time i took it off i went completely off of memory and it only took 30 sec. there should be about 4 indents on the lower panel that is hidden behind the back seats. now the whole panel should be unclipped. look underneath the cover and disconnect the plug for the Brake Light. The panel can now be removed! replace the bulb, put the cover back on the panel. smack/bang it in to push the clips back into their holes. make sure you get close to the window to get those clips in the tight
spot between the glass and the panel. feed the seat belt back into its cut-out hole. lift the front panels (indent panel area) and force it against the body. let go and it should slide back into the hole. repeat until all the indented areas are back into their original holes. the "indents" im refering to are actually clips on the opposite side. however, the have small indents/caved areas so its easy to determine where they are. its confusing... but this should help.

also, those indents are very easily broken especially if you beat on it with your hand trying to get it in there. btw, it is an led strip, not a bulb. Joined May 27, 2008 · 4,082 Posts
you can get at it, but its no simple bulb, EX models have an LED high-mount, now where to get one, I dont know other than the dealer

Discussion Starter · #7 · Sep 23, 2009 Thanks for the responses. I guess I have to decide whether to tackle this myself or pay through the nose to the dealer. My first inclination is to try myself, but after obtaining the LED part I still have to try to access it without breaking anything. Maybe it's best just to grit my teeth an fork over the $$ to the dealer. Joined Apr 7, 2006 · 124 Posts
Look under the DYI audio section on changing the rear speakers. It has step by step instruction with lots of great pictures showing you how to remove the back... Joined Oct 22, 2006 · 104 Posts
Discussion Starter · #9 · Oct 25, 2009 Not that anyone cares, but I ultimately decided to for over $80 to the dealer to replace the LED strip. I just didn't want to spend the time on the DIY. BTW, I have to say I am not happy that an LED needed replacing after 3 years. Oh well, its small potatoes I guess. Still love the Civic. What is high Mount bulb?A high mount lamp assembly is a lamp that's affixed to the top of the rear window. It lights up when you hit the brakes, along with the two brake lights on the rear of the vehicle.
