Join Date: Nov 2009 Location: Boston Posts: 1,073 Likes: 0 Received 0 Likes on 0 Posts I've been throwing an intermittent code for some time and it prevents my car from starting on some occasions. I'm goign to replace the: Crankshaft Position Sensor & the camshaft position sensor I know where the camshaft sensor is, but I need to know where the crankshaft is and how to access it. I'm assuming it's somewhere near the crank pulley. I wish All Data showed the exact location. Last edited by Ralliartize It; Jul 30, 2010 at 07:41 AM. Join Date: Jun 2004 Location: Seat 8A Posts: 8,624 Just PM'd you but I'll put it here in case anyone else wants to know. It's underneath the lower timing belt cover. To get to it, you have to remove the serp belt, crank pulley, idler pulley, water pump pulley, and then the timing belt cover. The serp tensioner probably has to come out, too. We are at a standstill with my motor right now. we think its either the crankshaft position sensor or the camshaft position sensor. but we aint 100% sure, we want to be positive before we go spending money on stuff i might not need... but when you replaced them, that fixed the problem? And how much did each cost, so i know what I'm getting myself into... thanks. Feb 23, 2011, 05:12 PMEvolving Member iTrader: (1)

I got my hands on a replacement sensor but ran into some issues finding a good diagram of the accessory belts to the crankshaft pulley. Do you have recommendations for a good place to look or manual to purchase? I looked at Chilton online, but the descriptions and images are sparse. Any help greatly appreciated, thanks. Where is my camshaft position sensor located? The Camshaft Position sensor is typically located in the cylinder head of the engine and has a cylindrical portion that inserts into the head. The Crankshaft Position sensor is normally located in the timing cover or on the side of the block with a cylindrical portion that inserts into the block.
Are there 2 camshaft sensors? There are two types of Camshaft Sensors, Magnetic, and Hall-effect.
What are the symptoms of a faulty camshaft sensor?A glowing check engine light, stalling, poor acceleration and bad fuel mileage are all possible signs your camshaft position sensor may be failing. Gone are the days of carburetors and distributors, replaced by a variety of sensors that help a car's computer get the maximum performance out of the engine.
Can I replace a camshaft position sensor myself? You can replace your camshaft sensor yourself if you are comfortable working on your engine, or you can hire a mechanic.
