This automotive "how-to" guide was specifically written to assist owners of the 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011 and 2012 Ford Fusion in replacing a burnt out brake, turn signal or reverse light bulb in the tail light assembly.

Owners of other Ford, Lincoln or Mercury vehicles such as the Fiesta, Mustang, Focus, Taurus, Flex, Edge, Expedition, Escape, Ranger, F-150, MKZ, MKS, MKX, MKT, Navigator, Milan, Grand Marquis, Mariner, and Mountaineer may also find this instruction guide to be helpful.

Replacement bulbs for the tail lights of a '06-'12 Ford Fusion from Sylvania and other manufacturers include the following with their part numbers: combination Brake / Rear Turn Signal bulb # 7443 and Reverse / Back Up bulb # 921.

The only tool required is an automotive panel removal tool.

A flathead screwdriver could be used instead.

Remove Xmas Tree Fastener

Remove 2nd Panel Fastener

2 Christmas Tree Fasteners
The first steps are to open the trunk and locate the black plastic trim panel on the interior of the trunk. Remove the two black plastic Christmas Tree fasteners on the trim panel that are closest to the tail light with the burnt out bulb.

To remove the Xmas Tree fasteners, pull them straight out with an automotive panel plastic fastener removal tool or carefully pry them out with a flathead screwdriver.

Pull Back Trunk Trim Panel

Brake / Signal Bulb Socket

1/4 Turn Counter Clockwise
Once the two fasteners are removed, you can pull back the plastic trim panel and also the grey trunk carpeting.

The brake / turn signal light bulb is contained in the larger tan / light orange colored socket. The reverse / back up light bulb is the smaller black / light grey socket.

Pull Out Brake Bulb

Pull Bulb Straight Out

# 7443 Light Bulb
To remove the brake / turn signal light bulb socket, rotate it 1/4 turn counter clockwise and pull it straight out of the tail light assembly.

Push In New # 7443 Bulb

Insert Bulb & Socket

1/4 Turn Clockwise
Remove the old # 7443 light bulb by pulling it straight out of the socket.

Push in a new # 7443bulb, insert it back into the tail light assembly and rotate the socket 1/4 turn clockwise to secure it in place.

I recommend using the Sylvania 7443 LL long life light bulbs.

Reverse / Back Up Socket

1/4 Turn Counter Clockwise

Pull Out # 921 Light Bulb
To remove the reverse (back up) light bulb, rotate the smaller black/grey socket 1/4 turn counter clockwise and pull it straight out of the tail light assembly.

Pull the old # 921 light bulb straight out of the socket and push in a new bulb.

I recommend buying the Sylvania 921 LL long life light bulbs since they tend to last for years.

Re-insert the bulb into the tail light assembly and rotate it 1/4 turn clockwise to lock it in place.

Push In New # 921 Bulb

Rotate 1/4 Turn Clockwise

Line Up Trunk Trim Panel
Align the trunk's black plastic interior trim panel so that the holes in the panel line up with the holes in the carpeting and metal body work.

Push in the two black plastic Christmas tree fasteners to secure the trim panel in place.

Push In Xmas Tree Fasteners

Testing Brake / Signal Bulb

Test Reverse Light Bulb
Test the new tail light bulb(s) by having someone step on the brake pedal, activate the turn signals and put the transmission in reverse.

What bulb is in a 2010 Ford Fusion?

Heliolite - Halogen Headlight Bulb - 9007 /HB5 (Part No. 4B40032737HLO)

Is the tail light and turn signal the same bulb?

In many newer cars there is one light bulb per tail light. There are two filaments in each light bulb. One is for your brake light and one is for your turn signal. So when you're stopped with your turn signal on one filament stays on while the other blinks.
