Your 2013 Chevy Malibu 2.5 L crankshaft position sensor is located in the back of the engine above the starter. The crankshaft sensor is used to control the fuel injection or the ignition system timing and other engine paRameters. One of the most common symptoms of a bad crankshaft position sensor is Your check engine light coming on. Another huge red flag is that You have difficulty getting Your vehicle to start. When You attempt to start Your vehicle, Your crankshaft position sensor begins monitoring the position and speed of the crankshaft immediately. A failing sensor could also cause Your vehicle to stall and/or backfire. Stalling is more common than backfiring.

In a 2013 chevy malibu equipped with a 2.5-Liter engine, the crankshaft position sensor is near the front top area of the engine. There is also one at the back side of the engine.

Greetings,

2013 Malibu LT 2.5L

Pulled code "P0011" which is for the (intake) camshaft position timing sensor. I have the replacement part, yet I cannot find the location of where to replace. I have checked the common areas to no avail. I have researched online and cannot even find a diagram for this engine.

Can anyone offer some insight & help with this?

Much appreciated!

Thanks for the quick reply. I have viewed this diagram before, yet at least for me it is difficult to decipher the location.

Take the black cover off of the top of your engine. It is at the top of the engine, near the front, and the one on the back side of the engine. The exhaust is on the front off the engine and intake on the back.

Also, it is my understanding they have had a problem with the wiring at the connection to the part you are replacing. If a wire is bad, I think Chevy will fix that for free.

Did it end up being something that Chevy covered under warranty? I have the same problem and my cars only at 55k miles.

Just an FYI GM issued an extended warranty on the camshaft position actuator solinoid valve on the 2.5l engine. They just did this a few months ago. I changed mine before I got the letter so I just ate the cost. Also since I did all the troubleshooting and repairs myself there is little hope of reimbursement from GM.

It's #19 on the diagram. Don't worry about mixing up the parts. They have different electrical connections so it's impossible to put the intake in the exhaust or vice versa. Also, I'd recommend replacing both intake and exhaust at the same time. Also do an oil change and make sure you're using the correct type of oil. My '13 Malibu LS was still idling high after switching out the parts. Did an oil change with the correct oil and it smoothed out. I'd been getting oil changes from the dealer (freebies from buying the car as a GM certified pre-owned) and I suspect they put they wrong oil in it.

If you have a receipt for the part you should submit a claim for reimbursement against the recall. You have nothing to lose putting a token value on your time as well to see if they will cover a little more.

I did this in the spring on a recall that came up on our 2007 Pontiac Grand Prix. There is a relay on the car that, when it fails, takes out both headlamps. When it fails you have little choice to replace it and, since this car was well out of warranty, I just addressed it. Fast forward six weeks and I get a recall letter saying take it in for replacement. Sent in the receipt from O'Reilly's for the part I had bought and they paid me back for it.

This is all assuming you can capture a copy of the receipt for the part you purchased.

Can someone please help me locate the second cam shaft sensor did replace the front one but I can't locate the second

Where is my camshaft position sensor located?

The Camshaft Position sensor is typically located in the cylinder head of the engine and has a cylindrical portion that inserts into the head. The Crankshaft Position sensor is normally located in the timing cover or on the side of the block with a cylindrical portion that inserts into the block.

Which Cam sensor is Bank 2?

The sensor that has an angled connector is the bank 2 sensor. These sensors can easily be located behind the engine near the firewall. Bank 1 is on the passenger side and Bank 2 ( Angled Sensor ) is located on the driver side of the engine depending on the vehicle model.

What are the symptoms of a faulty camshaft sensor?

If your vehicle idles roughly, stalls frequently, has a drop in engine power, stumbles frequently, has reduced gas mileage, or accelerates slowly, these are all signs your camshaft position sensor could be failing.

Can I replace a camshaft position sensor myself?

It may be easiest to remove and replace the camshaft sensor from under your vehicle, but it can also be done from the top by removing the air filter housing.
