EcoSport’s remote key may need battery replacement anywhere from 3 to 10 year interval, depending on usage. The remote uses a CR2032, a type of lithium button cell used in small low-power devices. Only a small prying tool (such as screw driver) is needed to open the remote’s casing and swap the old battery with a new one.

This automotive maintenance tutorial was specifically written to assist owners of the second generation 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020 and 2021 Ford EcoSport compact SUV in changing a weak or dead battery in the Intelligent Access or "smart" key fob remote control.

Owners of other Ford or Lincoln vehicles such as the Fiesta, B-Max, Escape, Edge, Bronco Sport, Explorer, Expedition, Transit, Focus, Mondeo, S-Max, Puma, Kuga, Endura, Everest, Ka, Figo, Endeavour, Aviator, Corsair, Nautilus and Navigator may also find these DIY instructions to be helpful.

The compatible replacement coin cell (also known as a "button" or "watch") battery for the smart key fob for this 2020 EcoSport Titanium is part number CR2450 which is available from various manufacturers such as Panasonic, Duracell, Energizer, Sony and Maxell.

Please double check the part number on the old battery in your key fob before ordering a new one. Earlier model years with the standard key fob may instead use the CR2032 battery.

If your SUV is equipped with the older style key fob with a metal ignition key, check out this Ford Escape Key Fob Battery Replacement Guide.

The tools you may need to access and replace the key fob battery include a standard flat head screwdriver or a plastic pry bar tool and a small flat head screwdriver such as from a precision screwdriver set (also known as a "jeweler's screwdriver set").

The first step is to locate the small black plastic release button at the bottom right corner of the smart key fob.

Replace the ignition key into its slot.

The key should "click" back securely into place.

To test the new battery, stand near your SUV and press the "Unlock" or "Lock" buttons.

If the new battery is working properly, you should see the parking lights flashing and also hear the door locks opening and closing.

Be sure to write down the battery change in your vehicle's service records.

(You shouldn't have to re-program the key fob. Just changing the battery should not clear the original programming from the factory.)

What kind of battery does a Ford Ecosport key fob take?

The key fob uses one coin-type three-volt lithium battery.

What battery does a Ford key fob use?

One side of the key fob will contain a green circuit board, while the other piece holds the batteries. The CR2025 batteries are stacked on top of one another, with a piece of paper between them. Note whether the positive or negative side of the battery is facing you.

Can you use 2032 batteries in Ford key fob?

Most Ford key fobs operate on two CR2032 batteries, which are 3-volt lithium batteries. Though Ford key fobs can be square, rounded or rectangular, almost all use the same CR2032 batteries. An exception is the Ford Smart Key with Pull-out Valet Key, which comes with newer vehicles such as the Edge and Mustang.
