This shines through with the 4900 that uses Detroit Diesel DD13, DD15, DD16, and the Cummins X15. This delivery of excellence comes at a price, the new 4900 will set you back around $160k, and the used one in reasonably good condition is around $100k.
Is Western Star discontinuing the 4900?My dealer just informed me that my 4900's on order to be built in January are canceled as the 4900 is being discontinued except for a few case by case units. I'm beyond upset and disappointed and am now being forced to order Peterbilts.
What happened Western Star?Following a run of just six years, Western Star is shelving its model 5700XE the company confirmed Wednesday. “DTNA has elected to discontinue production of the Western Star 5700 XE effective with the end of the 2021 calendar year," the company said via emailed statement.
Did Freightliner buy Western Stars? In 2000, Western Star was purchased by DaimlerChrysler, becoming part of the Freightliner Trucks division. In 2002, Western Star production was moved to a plant in Portland, Oregon. 4700, 4800, 4900 and 6900 model trucks are still manufactured in the Portland Truck Plant.
