The oil pump is a gerotor style pump driven off of the flats on the front of the engine's crankshaft. The 6.4L oil pump is held in its own removeable aluminum housing which also contains the regulator valve.

What does a diesel high pressure oil pump do?

The High Pressure Oil Pump (HPOP) delivers high pressure oil to the fuel injectors, which operate hydraulically.

Is there a fix for the 6.4 Powerstroke?

Fixing 6.4L Powerstroke Oil Cooler Problems Unfortunately, the 6.4L Powerstroke oil cooler isn't able to be cleaned. Instead, you have to replace it. You can replace it with a Ford OEM engine oil cooler which will likely solve the problem for another 50-75,000 miles or you can use an aftermarket engine oil cooler.
