EBT Online Purchasing Pilot ProgramIn 2017, the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) announced a pilot program for online EBT purchases. The program allows EBT Cardholders to purchase groceries online for delivery or pick-up. The first state to actually launch an online EBT program was New York, starting in 2019. California was added to the pilot on April 28th, 2020. Walmart EBT Online Purchase Program for CaliforniaIf you have a California EBT card, you can now purchase groceries online from Walmart for Pickup. You can only use your EBT card to buy eligible grocery items. In addition, you cannot use your food stamps dollars to pay for delivery. How to Use California EBT Online at WalmartCurrently, Walmart only offers online grocery purchases with EBT for curbside pick-up and not for delivery. Delivery options will be added soon. If you have a California EBT Card, you will now be able to use your cards to buy groceries and select curbside pick-up. Here’s how it works: Step 1 – Login to Walmart and Update Your Payment InformationThe first step to purchasing groceries online with your SNAP at Walmart is to go to the Walmart Grocery website to update your payment information. Here’s how:
By connecting your EBT card to your account, you’ll be able to use EBT Online with no-basket minimums. Note: It may take 24 hours for the no-basket minimum to take effect on your account. Step 2 – Build your shopping cart & check outOnce your payment information is updated, start adding SNAP EBT eligible items to your cart. Upon viewing your cart, you’ll see the total for EBT-eligible items. After reviewing, select Checkout to proceed. Step 3 – Pay with your CalFresh EBT cardOn the Select payment method screen, select the checkbox to pay with EBT. Next, enter the EBT food or EBT cash amount you’d like to use (see the image below). Once you’re finished entering a payment method(s), select Continue for the next step. Step 4 – Place your orderNext, you will be directed to an external page to enter your PIN (see the image below). Please note that the numbers on the pin pad will shuffle after each entry for security purposes. Once you’ve entered your PIN, you’ll be linked back to Walmart to Complete your Order. Step 5 – Delivery or PickupYou have two options to get your Walmart online order: curbside pick-up or delivery. See below for instructions on how to pick up your order or when to expect delivery if that’s the option you selected. Curbside PickupIf you selecting curb-side pickup, here’s how to pick up your order. Please wait until you receive an email from Walmart stating your order is ready before going to the store for pickup. Check-in with the Walmart app to let Walmart know you’re on your way. If you don’t have the Walmart app, you can call the store directly. Find the phone number under the store’s address in your Ready for Pickup email. Designated Pick-up LocationsSome Walmart locations now have designated pickup locations, as shown above. When you arrive at the pickup location, you will park in a reserved parking space marked in orange for Grocery Pickup customers. Once in the spot, call the designated number to alerts an associate of your arrival. You can also check-in through the Walmart Grocery app. An associate will quickly retrieve the prepared order and load it into your car. Walmart Grocery DeliveryWalmart currently partners with local, third-party drivers to bring your order right to your door. When your order is picked up, Walmart will send you an email letting you know the driver is on their way. If you’re satisfied with your delivery experience, you can leave feedback and add a tip for your driver.
