We have all had our embarrassing moments. Maybe you slipped and fell in front of everyone or accidentally stepped in dog poop, and while these funny fails are horribly awkward, sometimes all it takes is putting on the wrong outfit. In July of 2020, get ready, cause the Olympics are finally back. The wait is over and Tokyo will be flipped upside down by the festivities. Surely, we’ll see legends created and moments that will last a lifetime. On the flip side, we’ll also see some embarrassing moments, there’s no escaping live television.
In the following list, we’ll feature a little bit of everything. These pics are all surprising in their own right, whether it be because of a malfunction while performing their craft or a picture out of their field that is surprising and in truth, generally out of their element.

This was a moment fans won’t forget. The Australian hurdler made all the headlines at the Rio Games for the pre-routine, which consisted of a dance.
She brought back the routine both in 2017 and 2018. We just can’t seem to look away, especially when it comes to her infectious smile.
14 Yura Min Struggles
Just imagine the scenario of training your entire life for one moment and then, it isn’t your performance that fails you but instead, a wardrobe malfunction. There are no do-overs, it can turn into a real nightmare quickly.
Min handled it like a true pro at the 2018 winter games – it was a tough scenario for the skater.
13 Alex Morgan In Trouble At Disney World
We truly have a bit of everything on this list. From malfunctions to even photos of the Olympic athletes outside of their domain.
We’ll definitely classify this one under surprising, as Alex Morgan got herself in a bit of trouble at Disney World, it is believed she was under the influence on the day.
12 Gabriella Papadakis Malfunction
The difficult part about this surprising malfunction is the fact that the duo actually put on a great program but lost points because of the malfunction. Gabriella discussed her displeasure with Daily Mail;
“It is just frustrating to miss a few points because of a costume issue,” Cizeron said. “It is not what we get ready for when we train. I am still proud that we managed to pull out a program like that even with a difficulty like this.”
11 Lolo Jones On Big Brother
Not only is she a multi-sport athlete, appearing at both the summer and winter Olympic Games, but she also decided to expand on her resume by appearing on the popular reality series Big Brother.
She put forward a great effort though ultimately, she fell short of the grand prize.
10 The Retirement
This decision came just days ago as Ali Raisman decided to call it a career after such a fantastic run and a resume that will go unmatched for a very long time.
Surprisingly, she’s taking to other sports, as evidenced by her IG page. She was learning how to golf most recently and in the photo above, she was showing off her flexibility skills.
9 Olga Graf Attire Troubles
Graf might’ve got a little too excited following her bronze medal win in Sochi. After the race, she unzipped her suit way too down, leading to the malfunction. She detailed the scenario with Bleacher Report;
“I totally forgot. We have very good suits and they are very tight. ... You just want to breathe and you want to take off your suit. Only afterward did I realize that maybe this video will appear on YouTube. But I don't think it will be so bad.”
8 Model Olympian
Nope, that’s not a model, that’s Alicia Schmidt, a track and field star from Germany. She hasn’t wasted any time with sponsorship deals, inking endorsements with the likes of Puma and Foodspring Athlete.
She looks to be glowing in the pic above and if that’s not enough, you can give her a follow via IG.
7 Program Mishap
As we stated earlier in the article, athletes really can’t come to expect wardrobe malfunctions. However, in the world of figure skating, it does take place from time to time and to make matters worse, there’s nothing the networks can do considering it is live TV.
That was again the case in this scenario as the skater’s backside was completely revealed.
6 Solo In Court
In 2014, Solo entered the headlines for all the wrong reasons. Surprisingly, it was for reasons that had nothing to do with the Olympics or her involvement as a goalkeeper.
The headlines were all about her arrest, after assaulting her half-sister and nephew. She had several court hearings until the issue was finally resolved.
5 Stokke On The Green
That’s professional pole vaulter Allison Stokke, who went viral years ago. She’s slowly fading from the domain as evidenced by her IG account.
In the surprising photo above, she’s on the green alongside her man Rickie Fowler. Just recently in October of 2019, the two tied the knot.
4 Water Polo Malfunction
We’ve seen several water polo malfunctions in the past. There are some of the more obvious incidents, which consist of grabbing and the attire basically sliding off.
On the flip side, we’ve even seen scenarios of water polo athletes trying to get an unfair advantage underwater by grabbing and even kicking.
3 Lindsey Vonn Workout
There’s a reason Vonn is sponsored by Dwayne Johnson’s Under Armour brand. She’s an absolute beast in the weight room, putting in hours upon hours a day working at her craft.

2 Model & Olympian
Few can say that they are both a model and a former Olympian. Leryn Franco falls under that category. The Paraguayan is a professional javelin thrower.

She has amassed a big social media following via IG with more than one million followers.
