What is a field bred English Cocker Spaniel?

They were originally bred in England to hunt woodcock and rabbits, and still do, so they need to be able to penetrate thick cover, but they have adapted equally well to the wide open plains of the Midwest. Field-bred English Cockers are powerful swimmers and make excellent moderate weather, duck dogs.

Are field spaniels rare?

The Field Spaniel is a rare breed that can be hard to find. Take the time to research breeders and find one who is willing to help you find just the right puppy.

Is a Field Spaniel the same as a Cocker Spaniel?

Cocker Spaniels are smaller than Field Spaniels, typically weigh between 20 and 30 pounds compared to 35 to 50 pounds that Field Spaniels generally weigh. Cocker Spaniels have a slightly longer lifespan at 12 to 15 years compared to the 11 to 13 years of a Field Spaniel.

How much are English cocker spaniels worth?

The cost of a Cocker Spaniel puppy will range anywhere from $800 to $2000 if you are buying from a breeder. Pedigreed puppies can cost as much as $3000. Adopting a Cocker from a rescue can range from $200 to $350, depending on the age of the dog. Classified ads often advertise Cocker pups for as little as $300.
