Hi, I am Gator!!

I am looking for my fur-ever home. I was surrendered to a shelter because my elderly owners weren’t able to care for me. Since I am an old guy around 8 1/2 years old, I prefer the easy, quiet life. I have been blind a long time but that does not make me a hinderance. If you will be patient, I will quickly learn my way around your house and yard.  I do need you to show me the way and give me the warnings to keep me safe.   I prefer not to be outside alone for more than a couple of hours but will go outside in your fenced yard to potty by myself.  Potty training was difficult at first but after lots of trips outside, I am learning to nudge the back door to alert you.

I like a soft place to lie down, plenty of squeaky chew toys to play with and chewing on bully sticks.  My favorite hobby is playing fetch. I’m getting really good as long as I can hear where the ball bounces.  I have recently learned what to come and sit   I will walk on a lead for quick trips outside, but the harness works better for longer walks because I am a big, strong boy.  I am good with other dogs and cats, but I am very interested in hamsters (or other small rodents).  Because I am frightened when people make quick, unannounced movements near my face, it’s probably best not to have small kids around that want to give me surprise hugs & kisses.

My foster mom says I am a great work partner because I lay quietly in my bed while she works at the computer. She also says I would make a great companion for someone older or that stays inside most of the time.  I sleep in my kennel all night, but I do like to be in or near my person’s room, so I know you are close.  It is best not to leave me unattended for long because I will explore for treats or chew your pillows (because I can’t see the difference from my toys).   For short periods, I can be left in a secure space like a small room, a fenced yard or outdoor kennel.

I am heartworm free (after completing treatment in rescue), UTD on vaccines, neutered and microchipped. My adoption fee is $187 which is quite a steal if you ask me, If you haven’t already, please fill out an adoption application and email my foster mom Leslie at Will you open your heart & home and take a chance on a special guy like me?  You won’t regret it.

How much is a GSP puppy?

How much do German Shorthaired Pointers cost? German Shorthaired Pointers cost between $800 and $1,000 on average for a field-lineage puppy. Dogs bred for show or who have already received training in hunting may cost as much as $3,000 or $4,000. Lifetime expenses of owning a GSP will add to the cost.

Is a GSP a good family dog?

The GSP is a very affectionate, loving companion that mostly likes children and other dogs, though since they're so rambunctious, some experts advise against having them in households with children under seven.

Does GSP bark a lot?

That people-loving personality causes the GSP to be unhappy if left alone for long periods, and he can become nervous and destructive if he's not provided with regular companionship and exercise. He'll bark at strangers but isn't aggressive.

Do German Shorthaired Pointers shed a lot?

German Shorthaired Pointers are not considered to be heavy shedders. They shed a mild to a medium amount, compared to other breeds. Their coat sheds mostly in the spring and fall. In warmer climates, a German Shorthaired Pointer may shed consistently throughout the year.
