The Worst Hotel I've Ever Experienced

SamP30 , COUPLES Sep 19, 2022

My husband and I travel to Charleston often and we have stayed in various hotels in the historic district and this one was the absolute worst hotel we have ever set foot in. I am sharing this experience because I hope that you don't make the same mistake that we made. DON'T BOOK THIS HOTEL. Where to start... the first room they gave us was listed as having a "view of the park," but we weren't able to see it because the only small window in the room was so high up at the ceiling that we couldn't see out of it or even reach it. The second room we were given had a lower window but the room felt like a dungeon. Upon asking for a room with more natural light, we were given a room on the first floor, and just like the previous room, it had not been updated since the 1980s. I know this because my parents stayed here in the 80s and found a picture of their hotel room with the SAME FURNITURE AND CARPET. Speaking of the carpet, it was so dirty we couldn't walk on it because it turned our feet (socks) black. And our bathroom had a lot of hair in it that didn't belong to either myself or my husband. There was so much visible dust on the walls and dirt it was just disgusting. All of our clothes, including 2 new dresses that I purchased while in Charleston STINK and we now need to get them dry cleaned - and I haven't even worn them yet. We had prepaid so we had no option of finding another hotel. All of this for $400 a night? Yes. We paid $400 per night to stay in the worst hotel in town. I understand that it is a "historic building" but there are plenty of other historic hotels that have been upgraded and don't feel like a prison. As a Hilton Hotel, it does NOT fit any of the quality and cleanliness standards of this brand and I would stay as far away from this hell hole as possible.

NOT WORTH WHAT YOU PAY! Diamond Member Trust me.

I’ve been a Diamond Member for several years and this hotel needs to be remodeled or their Embassy Brand needs to be revoked. The rooms haven’t been remodeled, the elevators are disgusting and the cook in the breakfast was rude! Positive items: very convenient to the Historic District, very friendly staff especially the valet staff and a great selection of snacks. Unfortunately, I won’t be staying at this hotel for $411 per night.

Historic Stay

So this hotel is a hilton property, through and through. Excellent staff, beautiful clean rooms, gorgeous open airy spots to hang out in, a superb breakfast, and a great happy hour. It’s also in the middle of a ton of restaurants and bars - it’s the full package! This place IS history. It was a fort and a military school. The gun ports are still in the wall. The park adjoining the hotel was its parade ground. This isn’t just a historical place; it’s a place where history was made. I just felt fortunate that i was able to stay here - i think you will too.

Desperate need of updating

kirsteno892 , FRIENDS Sep 16, 2022

Ebony at the front desk was very helpful. She went above and beyond to get us into another room, after the first one didn’t work for us. Other than that, the rooms of the hotel are in desperate need of updating. Everything looks original- the carpet, furniture, curtains, walls, etc. the location, however, is great. Walking distance from everything.

Stay Away!

We love Embassy Suites, but this one is a NO!!!! The only good thing to mention is the front desk clerk who was kind and let us get out of our reservation! The rooms smelled so badly and the furniture appeared to have been from 1970s! I didn’t even want to sit down my bags let alone my body! So disappointed! I should have did my homework and researched first!
