Arenas & Stadiums

Slide 1 of 7

If you’re after an exciting event to attend when in town then you can’t beat going to watch a baseball game at Spectrum Field, ten minutes drive east of downtown. The Clearwater Threshers, a local minor league team, play their games here, and fans flock to the ballpark to watch the spring training sessions of Major League Baseball’s Philadelphia Phillies. Due to its intimate size, the stadium has an electrifying atmosphere, particularly when the Phillies and all their famous players take to the field.

Minor league baseball games tend to be more interactive than the televised MLB matches, and tickets tend to be cheaper. Watch Clearwater’s rising athletes compete against players from Fort Myers, Tampa, Daytona Beach, and other regional cities!. If you’re visiting Clearwater with kids, consider buying a Lil’ Anglers Club membership for them.

The Clearwater Threshers are a baseball team in the minor league, part of the Florida State League. They’ve been North Division competitors since 2001 and are a Philadelphia Phillies affiliate. For a time, the team was known as the Phillies instead of the Threshes, but that name changed in 2003 as they moved home stadiums.

Formerly called Bright House Field and Spectrum Field, BayCare Ballpark is a must-stop for baseball fans. Located in the center of town, the field is home to the Clearwater Threshers minor league baseball. Visiting Clearwater in spring?

This is a great ballpark to have a fun outing! While we were there for Phillies vs Detroit Tigers we do go to the Thresher games when we can! Always a good time! Lots of food options whether kiosk or brick and mortar. Several stores for team memorabilia and of course the Frenchy's Tiki Bar is always jammin and the world of beers counter next to souvenirs is always busy! Lots of ice cold lemonade available to buy! Fun ballpark to walk around! I could live here! Contrary to everyone's popular belief and they all think you have to turn right down one street to get to parking but secret go straight at light if coming from Tampa and turn right in next opening for Joe Dimaggio park and pay lot attendant there. Instead of sitting in traffic jam all trying to turn right at previous traffic light. It jams up the whole intersection and if you are running late you will park before 300 other people sitting back there to turn! Plus the lot attendant won't be bored. We brought her maybe 8 cars that decided they would follow us not knowing if we were going to the game or not haha but they lucked out we brought them to a completely empty entrance with person collecting money for parking. It is cash only I believe. Of course I had to check out the stores and not really wanting to buy anything I ended up buying a Phillies t-shirt for $8 and a jacket in pics for 24. You can't beat those prices!

So fun! We came for dollar night and you really can't beat the value. Parking was $3, everything else was $1. Food was good, especially for the price. I was surprised the place wasn't packed. Lines for the cheap food were pretty long but moved quickly. The game was good and it was just a fun, cheap night out with friends. We will definitely be back!

Nice big stadium, with lots of grass space for families. Lines are always a bit long for food however the restrooms are well kept! All we need are more grass areas that have shade 👌🏼

We loved the venue & enjoyed Dancing with the Stars. There is beautiful lighting and pre-event entertainment with food & drinks. Lovely. The plush green velvet seats are iconic. Sound, lighting and performances were top notch! We look forward to our next visit!

Drove 3.5 hours to see The Piano Guys: definitely worth the drive! I don't think there was a single bad seat in the place! The staff were very sweet and the grounds were gorgeous. The pre-show entertainment in the gardens was a lot of fun and the seats in the theater were very comfortable.

Great venue! Saw Slash featuring Myles Kennedy and the conspirators and had an awesome time. They offer Vale parking. We had Front row seats. I advise to order drinks on there app so you don't have to wait on the long lines. Also if you sit close to the stage you might want to bring earplugs.

As well as all that you would expect at a traditional zoo, there is also a Manatee and Aquatic Center that concentrates on providing care for injured, ill and orphaned wild manatees.

Lowry Park Zoo was rated the country’s top kid-friendly zoo, and it’s easy to see why. The animal habitat viewing areas are designed to make it easy for kids to get a good view. There are ample locations for them to get up close, including the Lorikeet Landing, Wallaroo Petting Zoo, and Stingray Bay. The hot spot for pre-schoolers is the Wallaroo Station Children’s Zoo, which recreates an Australian outback.

ZooTampa is another one of the top Tampa Bay tourist attractions for families. ZooTampa has a focus on animal rescue and rehabilitation. And from the moment we entered the zoo to when we left, we were treated to a thrill-ride of learning and animal interactions.

Another Central Florida zoo that locals love is ZooTampaat Lowry Park. There are so many fun exhibits, including the elephant, manatee and hippo areas. This is another awesome way to learn about nature while seeing it up close.

Such a fun place, my kids love it every-time we go. You buy a ticket once and it’s good for as many times back in the year that you want to come. It’s the perfect size park for kids to be able to do everything and see everything there without being too much. A nice fun day trip. There’s also two splash pads for when it gets hot, which is perfect ! Easy to navigate and the staff is always helpful when you need assistance. They have several rides. Some for little kids and some for bigger, as well as face painting & jungle gyms for the kids to play on as well. My family loves it.

We had a blast at this place. My boys were mesmerized by the the range of animals. Mommy, Daddy, and Auntie enjoyed the numerous beverages carts around the zoo. I give this place 5 stars but many of the animals were inside due to the chilly weather. Not the Zoo's fault but we didn't see the whole park. It's still deserves 5 stars based off what we saw.

This Zoo has some of the best natural habitats for their animals that we've seen. The staff is also great. The safari is worth the wait as well. We spent most of the day here and still didn't make all of the exhibits. The manatees are great to see up close. The water ride was such a blast for the kids that they went twice! We can't wait to come back again soon.

There is always something happening at the Amalie Arena, whether you are interested in ice hockey, basketball, arena football games, or music concerts. So it is worth checking their schedule if you are visiting the area. Amalie Arena, originally known as the Ice Palace, is an arena in Tampa that is home to the Tampa Bay Lightning of the National Hockey League.

This is a great arena!! We sat pretty high up, but it didn’t take anything away from the energy or the experience of the night. The Bolts are a great team to watch and, I have to say, the fans are just as passionate as the players themselves which always makes for a fun time. Most importantly on this particular night, the Red Wings earned the “W”, so that was a nice by-product of going to watch the game. I highly recommend going to watch a game here, it will no doubt be a memorable experience!

This is by far one of the best arenas in the nation to go see a Tampa Bay Lightning game, a concert or other event. It's conveniently located downtown by the water which has walking access to many local bars and plenty places to park. The entrance area has lots of space to grab a drink ahead of time or to sit and watch the game on the huge screen with your kids or dogs. I definitely recommend getting tickets that give you access to the Ashley VIP Lounge if you want a celebrity like experience. The food is amazing as well as the service and can't beat no lines to go use the bathroom!

Great facility. Every seat is a good one for Lightning games! Drinks are a little expensive, but what do you expect from a stadium! It's clean, well managed, and easy to navigate. If it's your first Lightning game be sure to stop by guest relations for a free button.

REALLY enjoyed our morning at the Aquarium. It all depends on your family's attention level. Some reviews complain that it's not much for the price. If you're expecting an all day experience, this is not it....but, for a morning (about 2.5 he's, my teenager and I really enjoyed it. The exhibits are close together and flow well - everything is kept up well and looks nice. There is plenty of interpretation and technology at each spot. The staff were friendly and helpful and the hands on exhibits were great. We loved touching stingrays, jellyfish, urchins, the sea slug, stars and anemones. The FREE luggage check is GREAT for travelers and plenty of facilities (bathrooms, benches, food opps, etc) for all. The art exhibit based on recycled trash was a great showcase. NOTE** Be honest with your family's patience level. If your family rushes and kids have no interest in nature/aquatic life, this won't "wow" them necessarily for hours and $30 may be more than you'll care to spend. But for many families, there is PLENTY to do, stress free touring, great exhibits, and an overall great experience

Wow what an aquarium. We spent 3 hours there and really enjoyed all the exhibits they have. I enjoyed seeing the Lemurs and learning about the many varieties of Jellyfish. My husband enjoyed the Otters and we both enjoyed seeing the sharks and the schools of fish swimming in a circle. There is a water feature for kids to play in as well as a place to catch lunch along with a well stocked gift shop. It's a bit pricey but young kids will love the exhibits and the hands on stations throughout the aquarium.

I really love this aquarium!! I have been there twice now. They have such a great variety of animals. I would highly recommend it for all ages. There is construction in the parking lot but it wasn’t to bad. U just have to walk a little farther. The first time I went here there were not very many people but the second time an elementary school was visiting. I’m happy for them that they could go in sure it’s very fun and educational for the kids but it was SO loud and packed with kids running around. I liked it a lot better the first time without all the noise.

The Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Tampa, which opened in 2004, is an award-winning facility housing one of the largest casinos in the US.

This was my husband and I first time here! We have never played in a casino and I was amazed at all of the machines! The employees were amazing and helped with answering any questions we asked. They were very informative when it came to explaining how the machines worked and what to do if we wanted to leave a particular slot and move to a new one. I think the voucher slips they give are a great idea! It makes it very easy to get your "winnings" and move to a new slot. You are then able to insert the voucher slip and continue to play using your credits on the voucher! Our anniversary is next weekend and we will be coming back!! We are hoping to either win enough to have a nice anniversary dinner there or maybe even a night in one of your rooms!! Anyone who leaves a bad review of this place is just being a poor looser.

Had a great time. Ate at the noodle bar, the hard rock Cafe, Rise, and also used room service. All were very good with reasonable prices. Casino had good variety of games. I won some and lost some but it was fun. Parking easy. Not so good were cigarette ashes on some consoles and the smell of cigarettes permeated the whole casino. Bring an eye shade if sharing a room. For some strange reason there are windows from the bathrooms that cast light into the bedroom at night whenever your roommate goes to the bathroom. Not cool in the early morning hours. Beds were comfortable and clean. Nice decor. I would recommend a stay.

For whatever reason the Saturday that I win seemed busier than usual. Not that that was a problem. I love the energy I love this casino very clean staff is always friendly and the games are always fun. The amenities are nice bathrooms are clean. Just a good weekend spot. Not sure when I'm going to go out there again but I'm sure it's not soon enough. Can't wait to go back.

Sunshine Skyway Bridge

Panoramic drives & views over Lower Tampa Bay, with an adjoining beach & popular spots for angling.

Slide 1 of 6

Spend the morning fishing on the Skyway Bridge or shopping in Downtown St. Petersburg. While in Downtown, visit the Salvador Dalí Museum, intriguing both inside and out. Catch an evening baseball game with the Tampa Bay Rays at Tropicana Field, with the required dinner of ballpark hot dogs and cold beers. Alternatively, enjoy seafood and waterfront views at 400 Beach Seafood and Tap House, within walking distance of The Vinoy Renaissance Resort & Golf Club, where you should stay for the night.

The Sunshine Skyway Bridge is next on our list of things to do in St Petersburg FL. This is one of those incredible bridges that you need to see to believe – it’s simply incredible. Though it’s not quite as grand as San Francisco’s Golden Gate, we still feel it packs a punch that makes it worth visiting. You can check out the bridge from several vantage point, as it runs for 12 miles in its entirety.

Looming across the entrance to Tampa Bay is the four-mile-long Sunshine Skyway Bridge, connecting St. Petersburg to Manatee County on I-275. The bridge was built in the 1980s after the original bridge collapsed after being hit by a freighter during a storm. For a toll of only $1.50, it’s worth the ride to see this architectural wonder and get a high view of Tampa Bay.

By far the best place to visit in whole of Tampa Bay Area! What a drive it was for us!!! Amazing timing too. My advise for all driving enthusiasts: must drive there once. Also, best time is around sunset. Beautiful sunset view in the west, awesome sunlight reflection in clouds and on the water, and beautiful lighting too. MUST VISIT! Picture taken from Sunshine Skyway Bridge Fishing Pier South.

We went night fishing and we caught a good amount of cat fish. It wasn't too windy and it was actually nice out side. Also I caught my 1st fish in 25 years!

First time going to Tampa/St. Petersburg -- and I insisted in going on this bridge. This bridge is an engineering marvel! I love the design, the imagery and it is really beautiful. I am definitely coming back in April! :-)

Bean Point Beach

Peaceful locale known for its wide sandy beach, tranquil waters & stunning sunset views.

Slide 1 of 3

The most gorgeous beach I’ve been to in Florida. Gorgeous white sand than never gets hot, well compacted and easy to walk on, calm waters. The sunset is like no other.

Breathtaking hidden little piece of natural Florida. Not as crowded as the main beach on the island and has a great view of the Skyway Bridge in the distance. Water is very calm and perfect for a nice beach day away from tourists! Be VERY careful with street parking here as you will get a $50 parking ticket if your tires touch the pavement.

Bean point is Anna Maria Islands most hidden gem! Very hard to find parking but we'll worth it. If you go to the northern most point of the beach you can literally see where the gulf waters meet the bay, as well as the sunshine skyway bridge in the distance. Use Google maps to locate bean point. Good luck and enjoy!

Explore Clearwater's surroundings by going to Ellenton Premium Outlets (in Ellenton), St. Petersburg (Craftsman House Gallery, The Dali Museum, & more) and Treasure Island Beach (in Treasure Island). Plan for a day of cool, family-friendly fun on the 23rd (Sat) at Legoland Florida Resort. Spend the 22nd (Fri) on the water with a fishing tour. There's lots more to do: stroll through Clearwater Beach, browse the different shops at Treasure Trove Mini Mall & Consignments, view the masterpieces at Stirlng Art Studios and Gallery, and explore the world behind art at The Ringling.

A very nice place to visit for some good deals for just about anything you can think of. The food court is well below average but there are many stand alone restaurants nearby. Grounds all well kept and parking is better than most outlets in florida.

Nice spacious shopping mall with great deals on clothing items. It’s spread across multiple directions and has shaded walkways . There are restrooms in each wing of mall. Only thing we noticed is the food court not many food options and the shops sometimes close early. There are eating places within 0.5 miles. We enjoyed the Hershey icecream 🍦 shop it has a lot variety of ice cream .

Nice outlet mall to walk around and find good deals

The John and Mable Ringling Museum of Art

State art museum founded by the circus magnate with 31 galleries in a pink Renaissance-style palace.

Slide 1 of 28

The Ringling is home to one of the most impressive collections of art and cultural objects in the United States. Constructed in the early 20th century, this 66-acre estate once served as the residence of John Ringling, one of the creators of “The Greatest Show on Earth.” Today, it consists of two museums, a splendorous Venetian Gothic mansion called Ca' d'Zan, the stunning Bayfront Gardens, and The Historic Asolo Theater. The main museum in The Ringling is the John and Mable Ringling Museum of Art, which is widely regarded as the greatest circus museum in the world.

The most well-known art museum in Sarasota is the John and Mable Ringling Museum of Art, recognized as the State Art Museum of Florida. The Ringling is an art museum named after Mable Burton and John Ringling. It is the official state art museum of Florida.

Amazing must experience museum. We took hundreds of beautiful photos and spent a good 3-4 hours here, lots of walking so wear comfortable shoes. The grounds are gorgeous and well kept. The restaurant food was quite delicious and convenient as we were starving after our 1.5 hour drive. I would definitely return especially during the different seasons. The place was decorated so nicely for Christmas. There was a lot to do and see.

Absolutely beautiful place we visited it in the middle of December. Natural setting with beautiful art galleries and mansion which looks like piece of Europe. There are art gallery, botanical garden and the circus museum in one place. For extra cost you can see the first floor of Ringling’s mansion which I found very interesting. The Circus museum has miniature model of the circus from the beginning to the end. I really liked the Glass exhibition.

Loved the gardens and the employees art! Really enjoyed the new glass gallery. Overall, most paintings didn't appeal to me. They have too dark or violent themes for me. I personally like uplifting artwork! I found enough to enjoy to make it a nice visit. I'm glad, however, that I hadn't paid to view the art. The rest of the complex is awesome!

Mote Marine Laboratory & Aquarium

Aquarium with a stingray touch tank & shark tank plus manatees in the nearby mammal center.

Slide 1 of 16

The Mote Marine Laboratory and Aquarium is an independent, nonprofit marine research institution with marine scientists committed to the belief that the conservation and sustainable use of our oceans begins with research and education. Although currently, Mote is a small aquarium they have a big passion for research and preservation of the world’s oceans and the creatures that live there. Animal tourism is a tricky thing to write about and I often veer away from promoting it unless I know it’s ethical, but Mote Marine Aquarium is one of the good ones.

The Mote Marine Laboratory and Aquarium has been on my radar because of their work with conservation and their recent breakthrough with the restoration of coral reefs. Without getting too complicated, the Mote has discovered a way for coral reefs to regenerate and reproduce coral “babies” through an experiment in the Florida Keys. With global warming affecting reefs around the world, this is really encouraging news for what many consider the rainforests of the sea and sustainability.

The Mote Marine Laboratory & Aquarium’s primary focus is not on caring for injured marine life or nursing them back to health, but on applying what scientists have learned to human needs. This facility is truly a research center, with a team of top scientists who are constantly pushing the boundaries. This research includes citizens of the ocean such as manatees and dolphins, sea turtles and sharks, as well coral reefs and other ecosystems.

This is a complete Non-Profit organization that aims at researching and developing the science of marine world through its displays in the marine and estuarine laboratories. Secondly, they are an aquarium open to the publish to share and teach these findings. Visiting is one of the best things to do in Sarasota if you’re looking to learn more about marine life.

An independent, non-profit marine research institute where industry scientists believe in the sustainable exploitation of the oceans. Turtles, sharks, dolphins, whales, manatees and seahorses welcome us. Wide-ranging research programs are carried out here, but there is also a hospital where injured marine animals are cared for.

This iconic Sarasota museum plays an important role in wildlife conservation. Mote Marine has helped to rehabilitate many injured sea creatures such as manatees and turtles. In fact, they hold regular turtle spotting walks at a nearby beach in season.

Mote Marine Aquarium is a nonprofit marine research institute designed by world-class marine scientists. The focus is on conservation and sustainability through education. While the Mote is small, the experience is incredible.

Marvel at sharks, sea turtles, manatees, and endless undersea curiosities. One remarkable thing about Mote is it is more than an Aquarium. It is a real laboratory where actual scientific research happens.

Mote Marine Laboratory and Aquarium is a non-profit organization highlighting marine research and education on City Island. It was opened in 1955.

An impressive marine research center in Sarasota, the Mote Marine Laboratory and Aquarium is focused on Florida’s marine and estuary research.

The Mote Marine Laboratory & Aquarium is one of the best places to visit in Sarasota, beckoning hundreds of thousands of guests annually.

So much fun! The exhibits are well done and very informative. I like that some were inside, some are outside. The volunteers are helpful and able to share lots of information about the creatures on display. One member of our party has some mobility issues; she was able to move about with ease, access the restrooms, access exhibits on the second floor of each building, etc. A really great experience.

This is a nice aquarium. We got there early so parking wasn't an issue. We also ordered online so we didn't have to go through the ticket line. All we had to do was show the door attendant our phone or proof of purchase. Walkong through the exhibits was easy and straightforward. It would be hard to get lost in this place. They had a virtual tour where you sit in this egg shaped seat and put on virtual goggles. The seat would move as you explored the ocean. It was 6 dollars a person. They also, had many stations for touching marine life for free. Sting rays, a Dogfish, and even little sharks. It was very cool. We also sifted for shark's teeth. I think it was 10 bucks a bag. It was a bag of sand you sifted in running water. You get a handful of teeth and you get to keep the bag they came in. Mote also has gators, river otters, manatees, and live sea turtles. Those are in a different building so be prepared to walk about a quarter mile to get there. We had a baby so we just drove to the other parking lot closer to that building because it was hot outside. Overall the experience was great. Our family highly recommends making to Mote if you're in Sarasota. It's worth trip. Takes about 2 to 2.5 hours to see everything. Have fun!

Very nice and fun place to walk around. I’m happy that they are trying to keep this place clean. At this place, you can learn about many marine life and see the laboratory. You can touch some of the sea creatures and the staff explains about the creatures. One thing is the manatees place was little dirty Water and couldn’t see them well. Other than that, it was very well managed. Also they have place to sit and eat and souvenir shop

Marie Selby Botanical Gardens Downtown Sarasota campus

Botanical garden

Nature & Parks

Showcase for thousands of tropical plants, plus a conservatory & garden museum, in a historic space.

Slide 1 of 22

Finding an urban oasis on the shores of Sarasota Bay is another wonderful surprise the city had to offer. Connecting visitors with a spot nestled into the shores of the scenic waterfront, this unique experience specializes in epiphytic tropical plants in a wonderful environment. Marie Selby Botanical Gardens is the is the only botanical garden in the world dedicated to the display and study of this group of plants which grow on the surface of a plant, but derives its moisture and nutrients from the air, rain and water in the environment.

Featuring 15 acres of fabulous flora on Sarasota Bay, Marie Selby Botanical Gardens is a slice of paradise within walking distance of Main Street. Founded in 1973, the downtown Sarasota campus is billed as the only botanical garden on the planet dedicated to the display and study of such tropical plants as epiphytic orchids, bromeliads, gesneriads, and ferns. The downtown campus also includes Ann Goldstein Children’s Rainforest Garden featuring an elevated garden with swinging bridges and caves for exploring plus a 12-foot waterfall.

If you need a break between all the museums, be sure to tour the grounds. The Bayfront Gardens include Mable Ringling’s rose garden, quiet areas where you can sketch or read a book, the stone statues of the Dwarf Garden, giant banyan trees that must be hundreds of years old and even a playground for little ones to run some energy off. There are also a couple of eating places on the grounds, making it a perfect way to spend the day.

With a magnificent setting on the shores of Sarasota Bay, Marie Selby Botanical Gardens is one of the most popular Sarasota attractions. Voted among the top places to visit in Sarasota by TripAdvisor, this living museum is the only botanical garden in the world specialized in the study and display of epiphytes. If you’re wondering what epiphytes are, they’re plants that grow on other plants.

Spend the morning shopping at the luxurious St. Armands Circle before popping over to Marie Selby Botanical Gardens for a short tour through their fabulous orchid exhibit. Take the John Ringling Causeway, Highway 789, over Sarasota Bay. Drive to Siesta Key, and spend the rest of the day on Siesta Key Beach. Have dinner at Ophelia’s on the Bay and stay at the Turtle Beach Resort.

The Marie Selby Botanical Gardens, which overlook Sarasota Bay is a lovely spot for a peaceful stroll, even if your not a keen gardener, is a great place to relax. The grounds are 15 acres in size and offer plenty of sitting areas for you to relax and take in the views. A wooden boardwalk that runs through mangrove forests offers beautiful views of the bay.

A beautiful tropical urban oasis surrounded by palm trees, bonsai, bamboo, mangroves and a fragrance garden. There is also a gazebo, a garden with butterflies, an area for children with suspended bridges, a pond with water lilies, waterfalls and then from here you can see part of the bay that welcomes Sarasota. The facility is open daily from 10am to 5pm.

Visiting the gemlike Marie Selby Botanical Gardens is one of the best things to do in Sarasota. You can tell how beloved this very accessible bayside attraction is by its membership, friendly volunteers, and by the numerous visitors on a midweek February day. There’s a Bonsai exhibit, manmade waterfalls, vistas out to marinas and Sarasota downtown.

Of all the botanical gardens in Florida, Marie Selby might just take the cake when it comes to sheer beauty. That’s because this paradise in Sarasota is a little bit different. Marie Selby Botanical Gardens is the only one in the world dedicated to the preservation and care of epiphytic tropical plants: orchids, bromeliads, and gesneriads.

Marie Selby Botanical Gardens is worth a visit even if you aren't particularly interested in horticulture. It's one of the best places to go for a stroll in Sarasota. You can enjoy a nice walk on a wooden boardwalk that runs through mangrove forests or relax in one of the many tranquil sitting areas that dot the grounds.

The Children’s Rainforest Garden is a must while visiting Marie Selby Botanical Gardens. With a 100-year-old Banyan Tree as the centerpiece, the garden is full of caves, swinging bridges, waterfalls, and more. The best part is this was designed with kids in mind so that they can play and explore freely.

Marie Selby Botanical Gardens is one of my favorite Sarasota attractions. I love it so much that I even placed membership there so I could visit as much as I wanted. Marie Selby Botanical Gardens has 45 acres of bayfront gardens within their two campuses.

The Marie Selby Botanical Gardens is a stunning garden featuring at least 20,000 living plants from all across the globe.

This place is a gem. Low key, like the rest of Sarasota, but there is a lot of heart in their staging. The variety of plants is wonderful, but the arrangement of scenes and sitting benches is inspired. Many great places to sit and reflect or read. Restaurant has lots of yummy choices, and today there was a food truck, too. Docents are very helpful and engaging. Mapplethorpe show was well done, and helped rehabilitate him for me.

Beautiful gardens of all different types with beautiful trails right on the Sarasota Bay. Had multiple bathrooms with easy access and all different places to explore. Cute little gift shop full of nice souvenirs Only trouble was parking as they are doing construction and the parking lot was fenced off and rock. My first time going and it was great! Beautiful!

Such a beautiful place to enjoy the beautiful plants and flowers of FL! You can walk out and get a wonderful view of Sarasota Bay as well. Don’t miss it if your visiting.

Great place to bring kids and spend a few hours. The petting zoo is HUGE. We love the U Pick and just meandering around. On weekends, you can grab lunch and the food was perfect for our family. They have produce, jams, butter, cheese and other goodies. You can also camp there. I highly recommend it! You do not feel like you are in Florida at all!! We got a great haul of strawberries recently!!

Quaint farm and farmers market for many family activities. We went for the sunflowers and wild flowers, as they are currently in season, but you can also pick many types of fruits and vegetables when in season. There is no fee to get in just for what you pick. Pricing is very reasonable and you can also skip the picking and purchase direct from their market. All the produce looked fresh and healthy. We didn't explore it but the pettting zoo looked fun. We sampled their ice cream, which was delicious. Signage is a bit confusing at first since they share an entrance with a camping area. When this place has events I bet it's a good time, looking forward to going back for picking other veggies in the future.

Definitely a fun place. My son loved the train ride and petting zoo. Nice big playground, shaded seating with plenty of parking. Wonderful veggies and fruits locally grown available for purchase .....and I am so obsessed with the sunflowers 🌻.

Slide 1 of 3

For me this is the best experience of meyakka river park. The canopy walkway tower is about I guess 100 feet tall. When we get to the top we can see past the entire park. The walkway is pretty cool, a breezeway attaching two towers. Carry some coins to see through the binoculars. It's a steep climb to the top so gotta be comfortable climbing quite a bit. The wooden tower shakes a bit when people climb which was really cool.

I travel to different areas to Stay and do bike trails. Even if Myakka State Park is not big it had lots of things to see on the way. The main attraction would be the towers. Is call Canopy walk if you want to find the 70 feet towers, great views and very well made.. I challange myself and is definitely a good spot. 👍 15 miles bike trail. The only dissatisfaction for me was that the Cafe is a small trailer near the building.. That would of been nice to seat and look out the windows to the lakes. They do have a gift shop. I got my fridge magnet for my memories. Bathroom were everywhere.... camping, kayak, bike rentals, bring your own and pay a fee. Oh! Is $6,00 per vehicle.

Excellent place to become familiar with the canopy niche. Plenty of aerophytes, birds and insects. Look closely for other plants and animals as well. In the distance you can see wetlands, prairies and the dense hammocks of South Florida. The nature trail leads you through the hammock at ground level. So keep your eyes and ears open for the animals.

Solomon's Castle

The artist himself gives tours of his aluminum castle & collection of art made from recycled items.

Slide 1 of 3

Absolutely love it! Arthur Solomon was obviously an absolute genius, a phenomenal artist in so many different mediums & techniques and a brilliant businessman. I was cycle touring through the area and saw a nondescript sign for "Solomon's Castle". On a whim, I decided to detour and check out the"aluminum castle". There was so much more than just an aluminum castle 🏰. When I arrived onto the property, I met the late Arthur Solomon's daughter, and she gave me permission to plug my gear in for recharging whilst touring the grounds and the castle. I didn't realize until later that she was his daughter, she was so humble I thought she just worked there. Stained glass windows, wooden artworks, a wooden ship that houses a restaurant, and innumerable other treasures all hand made by Arthur Solomon. And the property is still run by his family. What a tribute to a legendary man. The only thing missing, is not being able to meet the man himself, as he sadly passed away in 2016 at the age of 81. How I would have loved to have been apprenticed to a genius of that caliber. 'I make things. Arthur Sanford Solomon".

The castle is a very unique place. It is cool to see all the creations of Solomon including the castle he built and the boat in the moat restaurant. It is a bit pricey to walk through but you are allowed on the grounds and can eat at the restaurant without an admission charge. It is a good place for kids as well, if they like sculptures and creations out of recycled material. You can not take pictures inside the castle.

The castle and the grounds are beautiful. I can't remember the name of our tour guide, but he was amazing. Don't skip the walk along the creek. Knocking one star because lunch was mediocre (wait staff was great). But a BLT should have real bacon, not the tiny precooked (and half frozen) microwave strips of fake bacon.

Warm Mineral Springs Park

Natural swimming pool consisting of a wide sinkhole filled with mineral-rich, 87°F spring water.

Slide 1 of 3

Old Florida at its best. Nice grassy park with the only public "warm" mineral spring. Still not warm enough for my taste in winter, but it would be cozy in summer. Renovations currently mean no facilities other than the gift shop and portable bathroom trailer. When finished it should be really nice.

I arrived right when they opened. So at first not a huge crowed and great fully found a lounge chair and a great shade spot. I entered the water and of course you can smell the minerals, ( I expected that!) But turns out there is a direction you should go around the spring, lol. I of course didn't know this and proceeded to make my way around in the water "against" the flow, not so bad for the first lap, but as more people arrived and entered the water, the current picked up and I had to turn and follow through masses! ( it was like swimming up stream, till I switched.) Although there were tons of people, the field around the spring is very large and accommodating. I rated it 3 stars because ...$20 to enter??? Also..be aware...great people watching and you'll have the joy of hearing several different languages. Greek, Italian and Bulgaria....I found that part intriguing

Facility is currently under construction. But it is still well maintained and fairly clean, the staff is super friendly and helpful. Pleasant experience overall. There are three sections in the pool, kids section (up to 10), teens section (11-16) and adults section ( 17 and up) that's the deepest part of the pool.

Very interesting and challenging. Needed every second and every clue and hint. One hour of intense thinking. Each of us brought something different to the experience which was very enlightening. OWS is an amazing facility! The love they have for unwanted exotic animals is amazing and deserves the support of the surrounding communities. This is my first visit in over a decade and they've made changes. The animals look well cared for and happy with their environment. I plan to revisit when I have more time to just sit and visit with the animals. If you've never visited or heard of OWS please take the time to support their mission. These animals deserve to be loved!

It's a rescue for animals that cannot go back into the wild. All funds are used for food, upkeep, veterenarian bills, etc. Animals have plenty of space with toys and pools. In most cases there is a description with the animals background and how they came to the sanctuary.

Tremendous! This is a sanctuary for large animals, many being large cats. These folks really care about the animals. Very well kept. You won't regret the drive and the visit. All of the "care-givers" are friendly and helpful. Enjoy!

Edison & Ford Winter Estates

History museum

Nature & Parks

21 acres featuring the former homes of Edison & Ford, a research lab, botanical gardens & a museum.

Slide 1 of 11

From Sanibel, it’s about a half hour to Fort Myers, where you can spend a leisurely few hours exploring the Edison & Ford Winter Estates. Then hit the road again for the 90-minute drive to Sarasota, where you can catch an opera performance, stroll the downtown art galleries, or gawk at the gaudy architecture of circus magnate John Ringling’s mansion. For fans of serious American architecture, a trip to Sarasota would be incomplete without exploring the scores of gorgeous and innovative buildings in the area, many of which were designed by a confederacy of architects known as the Sarasota School.

In the early 20th century, much of Florida’s stunning coastline was the exclusive domain of the rich and famous from all over the country. Located on McGregor Boulevard, the winter estates of Thomas Edison and Henry Ford are two of Fort Myers’ most popular historical attractions and give visitors a unique glimpse into the lives of ultra-wealthy high-rollers more than a century ago. Both homes are open to professional and self-guided tours, and some areas have been turned into museums, which are full of interesting items relating to the lives of these famous men and their families.

Fast forward in time will bring you to the Edison & Ford Winter Estate. This well-preserved home of the great inventor Thomas Edison and automobile builder Henry Ford is a step back into the beginning of the last century. More than a winter getaway, the estate in Fort Myers also housed a massive laboratory and extensive garden. It was here in Florida that Edison had plants from around the world brought here to search for materials for his inventions.

Florida's snowbirds can be easy to mock, but not this pair. Thomas Edison built his winter home in 1885 and lived in Florida seasonally until his death in 1931. Edison's friend Henry Ford built his adjacent bungalow in 1916. Together, and sometimes side by side in Edison's lab, these two inventors, businessmen and neighbors changed our world. The museum does an excellent job of presenting the overwhelming scope of their achievements.

The winter estates of Thomas Edison and his friend Henry Ford are two of the most visited historic homes in the country, and among the most beautiful sites in Fort Myers. With 20 acres of historical buildings and botanical gardens set along the Caloosahatchee River, it offers plenty of room to explore and find that perfect Instagram shot. Your stay in Fort Myers is not complete without visiting the Edison and Ford Winter Estates. Thomas Edison invented the electric light bulb while Henry Ford was the pioneer of the early automobiles. Both American inventors were good friends and built their houses just a few spaces apart.

We were trying to find something to do before we headed to the FT Myers airport for a late flight today and I found this historic site on Google Maps. The Thomas Edison and Henry Ford winter home museum was the PERFECT last day for our trip to Florida! CHET WAS OUR GUIDE, he was super knowledgeable and very informative. The total tour took about 75 minutes but it was a beautiful day and we moved from place to place so he kept our attention! For a moment we dreamt away and realized we were standing in the same spots as some of the all time greatest inventors in the world and that was fantastic!! The fact that Thomas Edison and Henry Ford were best friends was the best of all the fun facts! As a BIG bonus the trees are absolutely breathtaking! Pack a lunch and just sit in the gardens and take it all in! Completely unforgettable and highly recommendable!!

Came here on the first day that they celebrated their holiday nights special event. Booked the guided tour and our tour guide did a fantastic job explaining all the information. It’s a very expansive estate at the same time the guide didn’t waste any time and we were able to finish the tour after an hour without issues. It is absolutely beautifully decorated and they aren’t normally open this late but it’s beautiful to see all the holiday lights being set up. It’s quite a unique experience. They also had some food vendors which we partook in a few treats since it was getting late and it was a replacement for dinner. Recommend buying guided tour tickets early as they do sell out pretty quickly.

Well maintained residency, location is near the water with great view. The parking is free. If you buy tickets online, you need to exchange them to waist bands at ticket office first. It is better to visit the museum first because it has so many first hand real things to see and read. Also the garden and the park adjacent to the ticket office are great, many nursery items for sale. Spent about 2.5 hrs today but could do more especially at the museum.

Manatee Park

Waterfront park providing paved trails, up-close views of manatees, an amphitheater & kayak rentals.

Slide 1 of 9

Myers, the lovely Manatee Park provides close-up views of lovably awkward manatees located in a beautiful waterfront setting. (Please note that the Manatee Park is a non-captive manatee refuge and it is rare to see them between May and November due to rising water temperatures in the Gulf of Mexico.  The best time to come is in the winter months.) You can also rent kayaks and walk along the many paved trails.

With the exception of the iconic American alligator, no creature is more associated with the Sunshine State than the lovable manatee. These slow moving, vegetarian behemoths are pretty adorable, and there’s no better place to see them in their natural environment than at Manatee Park. The park lies near the warm water discharge from a Florida Power and Light electricity generating station.

Manatee Park is a non-captive, warm water refuge for manatees, and this park is the best place to spot these creatures in Fort Myers. Manatees have been known to swim under kayaks and pop up next to them, providing excellent opportunities to photograph these gentle giants from your kayak. You can also find fantastic views along the walking paths at this park.

Home to the world’s largest known concentration of manatees, open-air boat tours are available, where riders may see these amazing endangered creatures up close. Those who have visited recommend taking the tour when the weather is cooler – late fall and winter – in order to see the most manatees. On this tour, see native birds, plants and other animals.

When you are going to visit Fort Myers during the winter season, you should drop by at the Manatee Park. With the tropical climate in Florida, manatees are drawn to the warm waters of the city to escape the cold temperatures of the sea. The Manatee Park will give you a chance to meet these gentle giants up close from the observation decks.

Nearby Orange River, Manatee Park is a prime viewing area for…well, manatees!. Anyone here during winter should definitely take a kayaking journey to get close to these gentle giants. The Manatee Park is open from 8 AM till dusk and parking costs $2 per hour.

first we walked around the property saw a couple manatees but the watercolor is very dark so you only saw like a little nose about coming out of the water. Then we rented kayaks for the 2 hour kayaking trip on our own They give you a map and it's pretty simple to find the manatees they tell you where they're hanging out that day. Well worth the trip we had a great time 15 to 20 manatees They came right up to our kayaks You just float around in the bay area about a mile down river. It was a little windy so the paddle back took a good hour of paddling non-stop.

It is a beautiful area to paddle around. They have kayaks for rent, and you can bring your own and launch there. The parking was $5. We saw 3 manatees while we were paddling around in the early afternoon.

We first went late in the day. We walked along the boardwalk & saw two manatees surface!! We went back the next day to rent kayaks. We rented for 2 hours & saw a ton of manatees! We saw several pods hanging out near the banks while we were out. Highly recommend going out in the kayaks (the tour sounds cool if you've got time!). The water there was very dark & murky, but we had no problems finding manatees. There were tons of them!!

Farmers Markets

Fun interesting if I had more time I would have poked around a bit more lots of fruits and veggies. I like roadside stands better in front of the farm but this was good here. Lots of interesting fair food the stuff that's fun but not good for you. Some of the vendors had some unique good samples... warning ⚠️ you might end up liking something and buying it

It was so nice to make it back out to the Farmers Market. The atmosphere, climate, and vendors were friendly, willing to let you sample their products, and of course, fresh and clean veges and fruits of great variety were available. Home-made mozzarella, guacamole, pickles, olives and dry tomatoes. We also picked up doggy 🐕 treats for our babygirl. Can't wait to go back next Saturday. Highly recommended, you can also bring your pets.

There was music and live dancing, the food was diverse and amazing. And I've never been to a farmer's market that had vendors other than food before. There were clothes and lawn/home decor and artsy travel mugs. In addition to baked goods, produce and seafood There were many prepared food vendors offering free samples. Definitely worth getting up early on Saturday for!
