Skip to content Show The weight of a gallon of oil depends largely on the oil type. The exact weight can also vary based on what temperature the oil is stored at. Most common oils stand between 7 and 8 pounds, while stored crude oil is around 7.2 pounds per gallon. Recycled motor oil weighs 7 pounds per
gallon, crude oil is around 7.2 pounds per gallon, and olive oil is around 7.6 pounds per gallon. Heavy oils like glycerin can be up to 10.5 pounds per gallon. The reason the weights of oils tend to fluctuate is because temperature affects the viscosity and density of liquids. Most oils become more viscous and less dense as the temperature increases. MORE FROM REFERENCE.COM The Olive Oil Conversion tool is the best conversion tool we have come across on the internet. It's easy to use and now available on our site. This is a great tool if you're looking to see how much Extra Virgin Olive Oil (EVOO) should be used in a given recipe. Ilias and Sons receives many quantity-related queries, such as how to convert millilitres to ounces, or litres to gallons, and every so often how much does fresh EVOO weigh. This tool is a great resource for answering many of them!
For instance: I was once asked how much one liter of extra virgin olive oil weighs. Using the conversion tool, I entered in one liter as the input and pounds as the output. In this case, 1 liter of extra virgin olive oil weighs 1.99 pounds. See additional summary below on how it was calculated.
Of course, the customer did not need to how much it weighed in pounds and required the measurement to be in kilograms. To provide that measurement, I simply changed the output to kilograms and 1 liter of extra virgin olive oil equals 0.9-kilo grams (kg). See additional summary below on how it was calculated.
The conversion tool is straightforward and allows you to specify the quantity and type of measurement. You would also select the output of the measurement. To use the conversion tool, follow the steps below: 1. Look up the measurement in the recipe you are looking to convert. Once identified enter the type by selecting the box associated with the measurement. It is important to note you can only select one input measurement and one output measurement. 2. Based on the recipe or the number you want to convert, enter the value into the Enter Amount field. If you are looking for a precise measurement, be sure to indicate how many decimal points you would like to the calculator to round to. By default, the converter displays the value to two decimal points. 3. Select the measurement you would like to have converted. This may be a native conversion based on your location and/or what kitchen tools you are working with. 4. Once selected, the output will be shown in a summary that is easy to read and record. Example below.
Lastly, the conversion tool also allows you to lookup nutritional information. All of the serving sizes on our product labels are 15ml per serving. You could use the conversion tool to increase the serving size based on your recipe and review the total nutritional value. Conversion Tool Calculator: Extra light olive oil amounts converter I am browsing olive oil on Google Shopping (the following problem also happens when I shop in local supermarkets). I found the information about unit price of olive oil is inconsistent. Sometimes only volume is available in liters and gallons, and sometimes it is weight in ounces and pounds. So I wonder how you can compare the unit prices between available information in volumes and weights? Do we have to know some common sense of the density of olive oil in order to convert between volume and weight using physics? Thanks! asked Feb 22, 2014 at 14:41
According to this, a gallon of olive oil weighs 7.6 lbs.; 1l weighs .91kg. answered Feb 22, 2014 at 15:07
Pete BeckerPete Becker 6845 silver badges11 bronze badges The density of vegetable oils is within a few percent of that of water. For the purpose of rough price comparisons, treating it as such will give you sufficiently accurate comparisons. So use a pint a pound, or a kilo a liter. Don't drive yourself crazy with it. answered Feb 22, 2014 at 16:43
SAJ14SAJSAJ14SAJ 72.4k12 gold badges151 silver badges229 bronze badges 8 It's easiest to do this in metric because in the metric system 1 liter of water is 1 kilogram (under standard temperature and pressure, but let's not get complicated). If olive oil had the same density as water then you could say 7 kilograms of oil would be 7 liters of olive oil, however oil is less dense which is why it floats on top of water. You need to know the density of olive oil expressed in the term "specific gravity", which is density compared to water. In the case of olive oil it is .91 or .92, meaning it's 91-92% the density of water. Using this factor here's how to make the conversions:
If you are buying small amounts of olive oil then you could just use a like for like measurement, however if you are buying a lot of it then using these conversions could end up saving you money. answered Feb 22, 2014 at 18:12
