How to know if someone blocked you on WhatsApp

On WhatsApp, there isn't a direct way of check whether you've been blocked, and you won't receive a notification if it happens.

However, if you have, you'll no longer be able to see their "Last seen" indicator, or the contact's online status in the chat window.

There are other reasons why this might happen, so it doesn't necessarily mean you've been blocked.

Comparing how their profile appears with another person's handset may give you an indication.

When you send messages to someone who has blocked you, they will be marked as sent - but not delivered, and any calls you make won't go through.

Though this can also be caused by a person simply having no internet connection.

Again, checking your sent-message status against another person who has also sent a message to the contact is an easy way to check.

Of course, it's possible that you've both been blocked, in which case you won't be able to tell.

It's also worth considering why the person might have chosen to block you in the first place.

If you have been harassing or abusing someone, you should stop trying to contact them.

You can report harassment, malicious messaging or distribution of private sexual images without consent online or by calling the police on 101.

If you want to block someone on WhatsApp, all you need to do is follow these simple steps:

1. Open the WhatsApp chat with the contact you want to block.
2. Then click the name at the top of the chat.
3. Scroll down and you should have to option to "Block" or "Report" them.
4. Select this and then select "Block".

This can also be done with unknown numbers.

A blocked contact won't be able to message or call you on WhatsApp.

What does it mean if someone's picture disappears on WhatsApp?

If you're blocked, you'll no longer be able to see their profile picture. 

However, this could simply mean that they've removed their image and don't currently have one too.

It could also be the result of a connection problem.

This also occurs when the contact has changed their privacy settings to Nobody, or when you've changed your own last seen privacy settings to Nobody.

WhatsApp provides the functionality of blocking people in their chats to stop getting new messages from that contact. However, the person who is blocked does not get any notification of the same. WhatsApp has listed a few ways in which you can tell whether your number has been blocked by a specific person/contact.

Here are a few ways to know that you’ve been blocked:

• You can no longer see a contact's last seen or online in the chat window
• You do not see updates to a contact's profile photo.
• Any messages sent to a contact who has blocked you will always show one check mark and never show a second check mark
• Any calls you attempt to place will not go through.

If you see all of the indicators above for a contact, this could mean that the user is blocking you.

Despite the above-mentioned pointers, there is no way to be 100% sure that the contact has blocked you or is dealing with a connectivity issue. According to WhatsApp, they have made this intentionally ambiguous in order to protect the user's privacy when they block someone. WhatsApp will never relay the information directly to a contact that they are blocked.

Apart from just blocking contacts, users can even report them if they think they are sending problematic content or spam.

How to block a user on Android

• Open WhatsApp, tap More options icon (three dots) and then Settings.
• Within settings Tap Account > Privacy > Blocked contacts.
• Then tap Add.
• Search for or select the contact you want to block.

How to block a contact on iPhone

• Open WhatsApp Settings > Account > Privacy > Blocked > Add New....
• Find the contact you want to block, then tap the contact.

Alternatively, the user can block a contact using the following steps

Open the chat with the contact, then tap the contact's name then click on Block Contact then select Block or Report Contact then tap Report and Block, which will report and block the number.

or

Swipe left the chat with the contact in your Chats tab, then tap More then Contact Info then Block Contact then Block or Report Contact then Report and Block, which will report and block the number.
