How to make an iced flat white

A coffee favorite reimagined for the summer

Froth whole milk using your preferred method. For more information on how to froth your milk, see our frothing guide here.

For a beverage that more closely resembles a Starbucks® Flat White, we recommend whole milk for a better texture. As you froth your milk, try using a spoon to gently push the micro-bubbles to the bottom of the pitcher. This will result in a smoother, more velvety texture for your flat white.

Gently pour your frothed milk into your mug until it’s almost full, then focus on the middle of your mug and pour a little faster so the foam will come out without moving your pitcher. As the foam starts to come out, continue to pour until you get a dot in the middle.

Feel free to try your hand at latte art.

DID YOU KNOW?

In Starbucks cafés, the Flat White is made with an extra shot of ristretto espresso. Ristretto means “restricted” in Italian. Ristretto espresso shots use the same amount of coffee but less water, and that results in a smaller, more concentrated serving with a sweeter, richer flavor.

This iced flat white—intentionally made with almondmilk and Starbucks Blonde® Espresso Roast poured over ice with a hint of honey—creates a perfect amount of cool, creamy, nutty sweetness.

What does an iced white flat taste like?

It's a cold, milky, vaguely coffee-like thing with an aftertaste that reminded me of pretzels that made me keep making this face.

Is an iced flat white strong?

It's a straightforward choice for people who want a dairy drink with a potent coffee flavor. Flat whites also have a thin microfoam layer on top. A flat white is an ideal option if you desire a steamed milk coffee drink that still retains its strong espresso flavor.

How do you sweeten a flat white?

Espresso: I recommend using a strong espresso for this drink. Sweetener: While totally optional, I like to sweeten flat whites with a vanilla or caramel coffee syrup – about ½ pump.
