Mike Todryk and Jennifer Todryk, who star in the HGTV show No Demo Reno, have purchased a brewery in their hometown of Allen. They’re formulating plans to turn the former Nine Band Brewing into a redesigned brewery and coffee roastery.

It’s a place with a sordid past: Nine Band Brewing was founded by Keith Ashley, who has been indicted on capital murder charges after investigators say Ashley ran a million-dollar Ponzi scheme and staged the death of a man named James Seegan. Ashley remains in Dallas County jail and is being held on $2 million bond while he awaits trial.

Mike Todryk, a West Point grad who spent five years in the military, saw a business opportunity in the beleaguered brewery. And he wants to give it a fresh start.

“When I drove by it, the wheels started turning,” he says.

“And of course when I Googled it, I thought ‘what is this about?’” he says of the crime stories that popped up.

He didn’t love Nine Band Brewing’s beer anyhow. But he’s a craft beer drinker, and he wanted to own a brewery close to home.

“We hope to bring redemption to it,” he says.

“That’s one thing Jenn and I always try to do: We want to create places that bring joy, light and happiness.” They also own Armor Coffee Co. in Allen.

Dan Bowman, executive director and CEO of the Allen Economic Development Corporation, says he’s thrilled that a nationally recognized couple from Allen is investing in their hometown. Bowman grew up down the street from where the brewery sits, and he calls the Todryks the “ideal owners” for a property that needs a strategic redo.

He says he believes the Todryks are going to “breathe new life into it.”

“The past is the past,” Bowman says. “You go in there a year from now, two years from now ... I don’t think anybody’s going to even remember that [it was Nine Band Brewing].”

The Todryks are in the early planning stages for the brewery, but it will most likely be called Armor Brewing Co. to match the name of their coffee shop located three and a half miles away. Mike Todryk was an armor officer in the military, hence the name, and he is a Purple Heart recipient from his service in Bosnia in the early 2000s. He says he hopes the brand helps bring honor to first responders like Jenn Todryk’s dad and brother, who are police officers.

Armor Brewing Co. is estimated to open in the first quarter of 2022. Mike Todryk is working on hiring a master brewer, and eventually, Jenn Todryk will lend a hand with the design.

He calls her his “secret weapon.”

The plan is for Armor Brewing to have a gastropub menu — one that isn’t set yet but will likely involve pizza.

“I want to put a nice beer garden in there and make this a really unique destination,” Mike Todryk says.

The couple has been in the food and beverage business since 2019, when the Todryks took over a coffee shop at The Village at Allen, renamed it, and turned it into a cafe with all-day food. Mike Todryk was a regular customer at the coffee shop before he bought it and named it Armor Coffee Co.

The family has plans to expand Armor Coffee to other locations in Collin County. So while the beer side of the business is growing, it’ll happen in concert with the coffee and roastery expansion.

“I feel there was a symbiotic relationship between coffee and beer,” Mike Todryk says.

The brewery will be at 9 Prestige Circle, Allen. It’s expected to open in early 2022.

Jenn Todryk captured the hearts of HGTV fans with her charm on the hit show No Demo Reno. The series, which premiered in March 2021, focuses on giving people their dream home makeovers without breaking the bank or any of the walls. Jenn’s simple design tips have become staples in her own Texas home that she moved into in September 2020 with her husband, Mike Todryk, and their three kids, Berkely, Vivienne and Von.

Jenn found fame through her popular blog, Life as a Rambling Redhead. In September 2015, one of her posts titled “Top 6 Wines That Pair Best With Your Child’s Crappy Behavior” went viral. Her blog helped land the opportunity to publish her first book, W(h)ine: 50 Perfect Wines to Pair With Your Child’s Rotten Behavior, in 2017.

The Texas native grew a massive following on Instagram soon after and began sharing glimpses of her beautiful farmhouse. Much like her fellow HGTV stars Ben Napier and Erin Napier, producers reached out after seeing some snaps of her former home. The house was the perfect balance of rustic decor and modern white and gray touches. Jenn shared in a 2017 blog that she felt like the property was “made for Christmas.”

In 2019, Jenn teased the news about filming No Demo Reno, though she had to keep most details, including the title, under wraps. That same year, Mike and Jenn purchased a coffee shop in Allen, Texas, called Armor Coffee Co. In between running her coffee shop and being a full-time mom, Jenn began filming her HGTV show. The series had a huge premiere audience of 13.3 million viewers, according to an HGTV press release.

“My goal is to give my clients a million-dollar reveal without any major demolition,” Jenn said in a statement during season 1. “My favorite part about this job is showing people the potential in the homes they already own. Things that they never thought could be were there the entire time.”

After years of sharing photos of her dreamy home on Instagram, Jenn announced that the family was moving in a September 2020 Instagram post. “We bought and renovated an older home (y’all know I wasn’t going to run into a new build) and it’s been so fun and such a blessing to be able to design all over again,” the mother of three wrote.

The Todryk family’s new home is just as incredible as their old one. Several of the rooms have floor-to-ceiling windows. The open floor plan offers so much space for the kids to play. The living room has high ceilings and a comfy couch that the entire family loves to get cozy on, especially on nights where they light up the fireplace. Of course, she perfectly decorated every inch of the property to fit her own personal style.
