Learn how ice sculptures are made – and how to embrace the cold weather – at the 15th annual downtown Mount Clemens Ice Carving Show from Jan. 31-Feb. 2, 2020.
For families with children looking to keep warm, the Kids Wonderland Warming Center, which is located at 70 Macomb Place, next to the fountain stage, where the carving takes place.
“The fountain stage is right next to the warming place,” says Michelle Weiss, marketing and events coordinator for the Mount Clemens Downtown Development Authority, “so the kids can run in there and mom and dad can stand out there and watch.”
A few exciting features for little ones at the warming center is the fantasy face painting and a princess & friends meet-and-greet.
“We actually find that kids love to meet characters,” says Weiss. “They love to touch them and have their picture taken. Oftentimes, the kids will dress up too.”
Weiss says another highlight for kids is the life-size Candy Land game. “The kids love it,” she says. “They’re the tokens and somebody flips the cards over and the kids move.”
“It’s such a classic game, so of course everybody knows how to play it. It’s a wonderful way to converse and meet one another,” she adds.
Outside the warming station will be carving demonstrations and displays of beautifully crafted ice along the sidewalks of Macomb Place and Cherry Street Mall.
Both parking and admission to the show is free. Official festival hours are as follows:
- noon.-6 p.m. Friday
- noon-4 p.m. Saturday
- noon-3 p.m. Sunday
