BOOK THIS TRIP Trips are operated by Kenny Low How long does it take to float the South Fork Flathead River? The approximate float distance from the confluence to Mid Creek takeout is 45 miles. 5 float days on the South Fork generally gives you time to relax, fish and enjoy the trip.
Where does the South Fork of the Flathead River start?Flathead River
Can you float Flathead River? The Middle Fork of the Flathead River originates in the heart of the Bob Marshall Wilderness. The upper section of the river offers primitive recreation in a wilderness setting. From the headwaters to Schafer Meadows, a narrow channel and log jams make the river generally unsuitable for floating.
Can you fish the South Fork of the Flathead River? The South Fork is one of the few places in Montana where anglers can legally target bull trout (char). The river is loaded with bulls in the early fall when they run upstream from Hungry Horse Reservoir, but anglers can't intentionally fish for them between August 15 and the end of the season.
