Steak in crock pot with onion soup mix

What we tweaked was: we used fresh mushrooms that I had sauteed and froze, 1/2 cup instead of the canned mushrooms; used about 4 pounds or so of round steak, added 3 medium onions roughly chopped, about 10 carrots peeled and cut into 1 inch chunks, about 6 large ribs of celery cut into 1 inch chunks, and because I had more meat, and added veggies, I also added extra packet of onion soup mix, an extra 1/4 cup of water, and an extra can of cream of mushroom soup. We cooked it on high for about 4 hours and on low for about 4 hours because of all the added ingredients. Next time, I will not add the extra water so it will be a little thicker. We ate it over rice. Will definitely make it again, it was SO GOOD!

Why is My Cube Steak Tough?

The most common reason that your cube steaks are still tough after cooking is that you didn't cook them enough. To remedy this, you can cook them longer until they become tender. You can also cook them on high during the last 30 minutes of cooking.

How Do You Cook Cube Steak So It's Not Tough?

A crockpot is a great tool for cooking perfectly tender cube steaks. To cook cube steaks in a crockpot, start by browning them in oil for 1 to 2 minutes on each side and then transfer them to the slow cooker. You will get perfectly tender cube steaks if you cook them on low for 6 to 8 hours.

How Long Should You Cook Steak in the Crockpot?

Cooking cube steaks in the crockpot on low will take between 6 to 8 hours. However, you can speed up the process by cooking your cube steaks on high in the slow cooker for about 4 hours. The only difference between cooking the steaks on high or low is the timing, but the results should be similar.

How Long Does Cube Steak Last in the Fridge?

Cooked crock pot cube steaks with gravy can last in the fridge for 3 to 5 days. Before storing, make sure that the steaks are cooled to room temperature before placing them in airtight containers to store in the fridge.

How Long Does Cube Steak Last in the Freezer?

You can freeze crockpot cube steaks with gravy for up to 3 to 4 months. To do so, simply divide the cube steaks into portions and place each portion in a freezer bag, leaving about a ½ inch of room to accommodate for expansion. You should also label the bags with the freezing date so that you will know when to use them by.

How to Thaw Frozen Cube Steaks

The most recommended way to defrost frozen cube steaks (whether cooked or raw) is to place them in the fridge for 24 to 36 hours so they can thaw gradually. However, if you don't have very much time, you can place the frozen bags in a warm water bath to thaw in 2 to 3 hours.

How to Reheat Leftover Crockpot Cube Steak

A simple way to reheat your leftover crockpot cube steak with gravy is in the oven at 350 F for about 20 to 25 minutes. You will know that your cube steaks are done when they reach 165 F to 170 F. Also, it's possible to reheat them in the microwave and the air fryer.

How to Reheat Leftover Crockpot Cube Steak in the Oven

  1. Preheat the oven to 350 F.
  2. Place your leftover cube steak on a baking sheet.
  3. Reheat the steaks for 20 to 25 minutes or until their internal temperature reaches 165 F.

How to Reheat the Cube Steaks in the Microwave

Cook the steaks on a microwave-safe plate at 30-second intervals on medium heat until heated through. By doing this, your steak will not overcook, and the reheating process will be even. Repeat for 90 seconds to 2 minutes until the steaks are hot.

How to Reheat Cube Steaks in the Air Fryer

  1. Preheat your air fryer to 350 F.
  2. Place the leftover cube steak in the air fryer and cook it for about 3 minutes until warmed through.
  3. Remove the cube steaks from the air fryer and enjoy!

Note: This is only for leftover cold cube steaks. For frozen steaks, you need to defrost them first before reheating them.
