The National Museum of African American History and Culture (often abbreviated to NMAAHC) is one of the Smithsonian’s public museums on the National Mall in Washington, D.C. Dedicated to telling the story of African Americans throughout history, the museum features 37,000 objects on a number of subjects including slavery, civil rights, family, and community. Opened by President Barack Obama in 2016, the museum is the newest of the Smithsonian institutions and is so busy in the peak season that visitors are required to book a time slot for their visit in advance.

The museum is open daily from 10 am to 5.30 pm. It is closed on December 25.
Tickets:
Entry to the museum is free, but you will need to pick up a pass for a timed entry during peak season (March to August), which can be booked online. During this peak season, walk-up entry is only available from 1 pm.

How to get there:
The easiest way to get to the NMAAHC is by taking the metro to Smithsonian Metro station, which is served by the Blue, Orange, and Silver lines. Bus routes that stop nearby include 30N, 30S, 28B, 52, and D6. There is no public parking available at the museum, but private parking options are available nearby.
