Established in 1853, the University of Florida is located in Gainesville, Florida and is one of the oldest public research universities in the USA. The University of Florida is commonly known as UF or UFL and is among 17 universities which are a part of the Association of American Universities. Officially UF began functioning as a full-fledged university in September 1906, from Florida Agriculture College in the 1860s.
