So, we need to check the voltage coming from the DTCM and find out if when it gets the switch input to shift that it is actually commanding the motor to come on.

I was having the same issue and luckily mine seems to have gone away. I never replaced the transfer case motor that the dealer suggested I do. ~$1,000 and it was backordered anyhow. It's clear this issue should be addressed by Jeep and it has not been. Any simple google search can point you to tons of people having this issue, but the Jeep dealer acts like they have never had another customer with the same issue.

Separate things that I have done relatively recently that I will mention in case it sparks any ideas in your head. Caveat, all or none of these could be related but with the highly electronic and hard to diagnose issues, I feel nothing is too small to ignore.

I was having dead battery issues, it turns out there was an issue where my aftermarket brake controller was drawing power even when the vehicle was turned off. There was a fuse on the line that was connected directly to the battery and since then I have just pulled that fuse between times when I am towing anything.

I replaced the brake switch (the little button your pedal pushes to turn on your brake lights) twice actually. Not sure if it really needed to be replaced but I did it anyhow since the part was cheap enough and was throwing codes and the dealer told me replacement was needed, even after I replaced it (so I replaced it again in the rare event the first replacement was defective).

I have HID headlights and I've heard they can interfere with some electronics and generate strange issues. I replaced the ballasts powering them in the event one was defective.

Separately I keep getting intermittent error warning about to service the tire pressure monitoring system. I heard the batteries in the sensors that are on the valve stem of each of the tires go bad after 10-15 years and since my Jeep is an '06 Overland I went ahead and replaced them thinking that would resolve the issue and it didn't. The dealer doesn't know what is wrong and have advised me to ignore it. Very annoying when it sometimes flashes in orange on the dash when one of the tires incorrectly registers as very low or zero pressure and my passengers get alarmed.

I replaced my rear brake lights since one was slightly cracked and I was trying to diagnose my dead battery issue related to the brake controller. I figured if moisture from the cracked lens was leading to a short, replacing it was a good call. Separately I backed into my trash can in my driveway so the second lens got replaced at the same time.

Sometimes I feel I may be replacing parts prematurely but after pissing away hours researching online, and dropping the car off at the stealership, it is sometimes worth it to replace perfectly good parts to rule them out as a possible issue since they will likely need to be replaced eventually and also the dealer often does the same thing as they guess what is wrong and replace parts until something is fixed. After replacing parts and saying the issue did not go away they will insist the replaced part needed to be replaced anyhow.

Good luck! Oh and since my issue that you are currently having is resolved at the moment, I have tried to engage and disengage the 4WD system periodically. Somewhere online I read that doing so helps prevent it from getting "locked up".
