T

he biggest domestic game of the season so far pits serial winners Chelsea against title-chasing Liverpool.

The Carabao Cup final is often used a platform upon which to build further success during the business end of the season and it could be one of many trophies for either side before now and the end of the season.

While Thomas Tuchel’s title challenge has collapsed, adding yet another trophy to his list at Stamford Bridge would reaffirm his position as one of the game’s leading managers, as well as potentially raise morale ahead of the Champions League’s latter stages.

Liverpool, meanwhile, surely must keep adding silverware to seriously underline just how elite their current team is. In the pantheon of great teams the club has had, Jurgen Klopp’s squad still lack the sheer number of trophies to match up.

Here’s how to keep across all of the action...

Liverpool chances of a quadruple could practically be over should Manchester City win their next game but they will be determined to keep them alive no matter what by securing the FA Cup trophy this weekend, in what is a rematch of the Carabao Cup final in February.

Chelsea are their opponents and are fighting for their last chance of silverware this season, as they look to get revenge on the Reds for that penalty shoot-out defeat at Wembley earlier this year.

Both sides were on their travels for some Premier League action in midweek, as Liverpool defeated Aston Villa 2-1 on Tuesday night, before Chelsea overcame Leeds United 3-0 just 24 hours later.

When is Chelsea vs Liverpool?

Chelsea vs Liverpool will kick-off at 4:45pm on Saturday, May 14 at Wembley Stadium.

The last meeting between these two sides came back in February, when the Reds defeated the Blues in a penalty shoot-out in the Carabao Cup final to secure their first trophy of the season.

Joël Matip’s disallowed goal in the 67th minute by VAR meant the two sides couldn’t be separated after 90 minutes and therefore forced extra time, where it still ended 0-0 after 120 minutes. A penalty shoot-out ensued, and Kepa Arrizabalaga missed Chelsea’s 11th penalty to allow Liverpool to win 11-10 in the shoot-out and claim the Carabao Cup.

Team news

Despite picking up a convincing 3-0 victory against Leeds on Wednesday, Thomas Tuchel will be expected to make one or two changes in order to freshen things up as his side look to taste FA Cup glory this season.

However, he could be without four players for this tie, especially if N’Golo Kante does not pass a late fitness test in time to feature. Mateo Kovacic (ankle) could very well be out for the rest of the season, along with Callum Hudson-Odoi (calf) and Ben Chilwell (knee).

As for Jurgen Klopp’s side, their hectic schedule continues but he will also be expected to rotate his squad once again following a number of changes that were made ahead of their 2-1 victory over Aston Villa on Tuesday.

Fabinho picked up a thigh injury during that game and will miss out on Saturday’s FA Cup final, but there should be recalls to the starting lineup for Mohamed Salah, Thiago and Jordan Henderson, while Ibrahima Konate and Roberto Firmino will be pushing for starts.
