Why can t you wear makeup after microneedling

Procell™ MicroChanneling is a breakthrough microneedling treatment that can significantly improve the health and appearance of your skin. It works by creating microscopic columns of injury that trigger internal rejuvenation. To heal quickly and achieve a smooth, glowing complexion, you’ll need to follow some post-treatment instructions.

Below, you’ll find a few do’s and don’ts to guide your short recovery and help maximize your results. When you visit our practice, a trained member of our aesthetics team will give you additional recommendations.

Wearing Makeup

Since microneedling causes temporary skin redness, most patients are interested in wearing makeup after their treatment. However, it’s important to avoid applying anything, apart from the provided solution or mask, for at least 90 minutes. After 90 minutes, many patients choose to stay makeup-free to give their skin more time to breathe.

If you want to wear makeup so you can return to work without looking red, mineral powder is an ideal choice. Make sure to use a clean brush when you apply it to avoid introducing bacteria to your skin.

Washing Your Face

As far as washing your face after microneedling goes, you should only use lukewarm water for the first 48 hours. On days two and three, it’s safe to cleanse with a gentle, non-exfoliating face wash.

Make sure to apply the product using light, circular hand motions, and don’t use a facial cleansing brush. Around day four, you should be able to resume your regular skin care routine.

Applying Skin Care Products

We will provide you with a week’s worth of serum to use after your Procell™ MicroChanneling treatment. This high-quality product is designed to pair well with the skin service and enhance your results. We have full-size products available for purchase as well!

When using the serums, gels, and creams you have at home, avoid products that contain active ingredients such as retinol. These products will likely irritate your skin during this time of increased sensitivity.

Applying moisturizer is particularly crucial after microneedling, especially from day two to four, when the skin tends to experience trans-epidermal moisture loss. Due to the micro-injury caused by the treatment, water can temporarily pass more easily from the dermis through the epidermis and evaporate. Keep your recommended moisturizer on hand and apply it as frequently as necessary to avoid feeling dry.

Avoiding Sun Exposure

Too much sun exposure is never good for the skin. It can cause damage and contribute to concerns such as visible aging and pigmentation issues.

Since you’ve just invested in Procell™ MicroChanneling to improve your complexion, it’s particularly important to avoid harmful UV rays. You should limit your time in the sun and a wear broad-spectrum SPF, as microneedling temporarily increases skin sensitivity. After the healing phase is complete, continue to wear sunscreen daily to protect your healthy new skin cells.

Exercising and Sweating

If you’re loyal to an intense fitness routine, you’ll need to take a day or two off. We advise patients to avoid sweaty exercise right after microneedling, as it can contribute to irritation and swelling while potentially exposing the skin to bacteria.

As you age, your skin can start to look dull and sag, and over-the-counter serums and moisturizers might not be able to rejuvenate your skin. Radiofrequency (RF) microneedling can revamp the appearance of your skin and allow treatments to penetrate deeper into the skin. This innovative procedure boosts the amount of collagen in the skin, leading to a plumper and healthier appearance. There are minor side effects, including facial redness and discomfort, but most patients report little pain from the treatment. You will be able to start wearing makeup 2 – 3 days after your appointment. To find out if RF microneedling may be right for you, schedule a consultation with our team at About Face & Body Medical Spa in Katy, TX.

What is RF microneedling?

RF microneedling is a minimally invasive treatment that helps to refresh the skin. During the procedure, multiple needles will make micro-injuries to the surface of the skin. The punctures made by the needles help trigger your natural production of collagen and elastin. Collagen is responsible for plumping your skin and giving it elasticity. Elastin allows the skin to stretch and move back into place. Both of these can help minimize stretch marks, scars, and pores. The treatment is often performed in conjunction with others, such as vitamin serums or platelet-rich plasma. If you choose to add another therapy, the micro-injuries will allow the treatment to fully penetrate the skin. The treatment is customizable to fit your specific needs.

What to expect from RF microneedling

The procedure is performed in 30 – 60 minutes. A numbing cream or local anesthesia is available upon request, but patients usually report little to no pain or discomfort. The treated area will be cleaned before the DermaFrac™ handpiece is passed over the skin. After the microneedling is done, another treatment, like a serum, can be applied so the ingredients can soak deeply into the skin. Finally, a moisturizer and UV protection will be massaged into the skin. Although results from RF microneedling are noticeable, it may not be as pronounced as more invasive procedures, such as plastic surgery. After the Procedure

The side effects of RF microneedling are minimal, but you still need to know what to expect after your appointment. There can be some temporary redness and discomfort. While you might want to cover the redness with makeup, it is important to wait until you get the okay from our team. There is a risk of infection when you use makeup, including tinted moisturizer or sunscreen, too soon after treatment. It usually takes between 2 – 3 days before your skin is prepared for makeup. Our team can give you a full set of detailed instructions before you leave. Results should be visible within a few days but will continue to develop as your skin produces collagen and elastin.
