"I had to figure out how to hide the kids' faces because there was a bounty on our heads," she tells InStyle magazine. "When you adopt a child, there's a placement period, and if something goes sideways, they have the right to take the child away. It's a tenuous, strenuous six months." During the process, Bullock had to take Laila to the hospital for an "allergy scare," and while she was in the emergency room a photographer managed to get a shot of Laila, which Sandra and her legal team stopped from being published. "So the word was out that I had another child," she adds. "And everyone wanted photos. It was heartbreaking. Louis would hear a helicopter or drone, and he'd run to get his sister and drag her across the lawn and hide her under the trampoline. So poor Laila had PTSD (post traumatic stress disorder). But it took the bounty off once we did those official photos. Everything's a learning experience." Sandra Bullock believes that one particular segment in her latest movie, The Lost City, shows how talented she is as an actor. The Lost City is an action-packed comedy following the adventures of a novelist, played by Bullock, who is kidnapped for her supposed knowledge regarding the location of ancient treasure mentioned in one of her novels. Bullock stars in the film alongside several other name actors, like Daniel Radcliffe, Channing Tatum, and Brad Pitt. The quest leads the characters through dangerous trials and treacherous jungle terrain as they explore exotic locations in search of the treasure. Surviving motorcycle chases, scaling large cliffs, and escaping booby-trapped ruins are all obstacles Bullock faces throughout the movie. However, one of the most comedic incidents occurs when she has to save her “rescuer,” a model (Tatum) who is trying to free the novelist from her captors. Tatum’s character becomes covered in huge leeches following his attempt to keep her from drowning. The Lost City scene has Tatum strip down in a panic to reveal the numerous parasites that had infiltrated his shirt and shorts. Bullock is tasked with the removal of the leeches, even having to pick them off of the actor's naked backside. In a recent interview with Looper, is asked how exhilarating the particular scene was to film. She then explains how meticulous she was in removing the leeches, saying that it takes a huge amount of skill and dedication to pull it off. Check out Bullock's full quote below:
Bullock’s character hesitantly picks off each disgusting, bloodsucking parasite one by one, spanning Tatum’s back down to his bare butt. Although the leeches’ appearance and removal seem to be extremely realistic, the parasites were only props, lending even more credibility to Bullock's tongue-in-cheek assertion that her skills helped sell the sequence. The interaction between the characters and the slimy intruders led to one of the funniest and most memorable moments in The Lost City. At this point in her career, Bullock doesn’t have much to prove when it comes to her acting skills. She has already won the Best Actress Oscar and been featured in an array of romantic comedies, as well as films in other genres, for over thirty years now. Even so, throughout all of her movies, audiences have never witnessed Bullock’s leech removal skills until The Lost City, and fans can now add this unusual skill to her impressive repertoire.
