Will there be another spiderman movie after far from home

While Spider-Man: No Way Home concluded Tom Holland’s Homecoming trilogy, there are several upcoming Spider-Man movies releasing in the near future to maintain excitement. Sony has long been planning spinoff feature films of Spider-Man universe characters, though only a few have come to fruition. While solo or team-up films surrounding characters like Black Cat and Silver Sable, Jake Gyllenhaal’s Mysterio villain, or even Aunt May have long been rumored Sony projects, the company already has a healthy slate of Spider-Man films on its schedule after 2021’s No Way Home.

Likely going down in history as the greatest Spider-Man movie of all time, No Way Home brings together the three most iconic live-action Spider-Men of the 21st century. Both Tobey Maguire’s Peter Parker from Sam Raimi’s trilogy (2002-2007) and Andrew Garfield from Marc Webb’s Amazing Spider-Man films (2012-2014) appeared in the film to help Holland’s wall-crawler cure multi-versal villains. The nostalgia of Spider-Men of film series past all working together serves as one of the most satisfying and exciting moments in the character's celebrated history. Spider-Man: No Way Home's ending sees Maguire and Garfield’s superheroes returning to their respective universes, while the MCU’s Parker reluctantly wipes his identity from the memories of the entire world—even his best friends—thus continuing his superheroics anonymously.

Following the heartwarming yet tragic ending of Spider-Man: No Way Home, many fans have lobbied for Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield’s Spider-Men to receive their long-awaited sequel films. Maguire’s Spider-Man trilogy was initially set to have at least two more sequels, while Garfield’s The Amazing Spider-Man 3 film was canceled due to Disney’s deal with Sony about introducing a new Spider-Man into the MCU, which would later become Tom Holland’s Peter Parker in 2016’s Captain America: Civil War. While Holland, Maguire, and Garfield’s superhero returns are so far unknown, there are still plenty of upcoming Spider-Man films to satisfy audience anticipation in the meantime.

Morbius - 2022

morbius

The next Spider-Man film following No Way Home is Sony’s Morbius, starring Jared Leto as Dr. Michael Morbius. The origin story film follows Dr. Morbius, who is afflicted with a rare blood disease, as he tries a cure that unintentionally gives him a type of vampirism. Morbius will also connect to the MCU, as Michael Keaton reprises his role as Adrian Toomes/Vulture from Spider-Man: Homecoming (2017). Directed by Daniel Espinoza, Morbius is set to premiere in theaters on January 28, 2022.

Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse Parts 1 & 2 - 2022/TBA

Spiderman across the spiderverse miles morales temporal paradox

Following the highly praised animated feature Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse in 2018, Sony announced a sequel following young Spider-Man hero Miles Morales. Returning voice actors and characters include Shameik Moore as Miles/Spider-Man, Oscar Isaac as Miguel O’Hara/Spider-Man 2099, and Hawkeye’s Hailee Steinfeld as Gwen Stacy/Spider-Woman. Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse will take place one year after the events of the 2018 film, following Miles, Gwen, and a slew of multiversal Spider-People on a new adventure. The animated film is set to release on October 7, 2022 as the directorial debuts of Joaquim Dos Santos, Kemp Powers, and Justin K. Thompson. Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse Part I will be followed by Part 2, which is expected to debut in 2023 with the same cast and has been described as the set-up for Seinfeld’s Spider-Woman-centered spinoff film.

Kraven The Hunter - 2023

Spiderman no way home sets up sonys kraven the hunter

Spider-Man’s comics villain Kraven the Hunter is making his live-action debut in 2023, with Sony bringing to life his origin story. Directed by J.C. Chandor, Kraven the Hunter's movie follows Russian immigrant Sergei Kravinoff (Aaron Taylor-Johnson), whose goal is to prove that he is the world’s best hunter. Kraven’s live-action film introduction was also teased in a critical scene of Spider-Man: No Way Home. As Doctor Strange tries to hold back more characters who know about Peter Parker from alternate universes, one yellow silhouetted figure is focused on. Marvel comics fans quickly spotted that this figure was Kraven, and was the perfect set-up to his new film. As a classic Spider-Man villain, it will be exciting to have him in his own live-action film, no matter if his actual foe in Kraven the Hunter is Peter Parker or not.

The Sinister Six - TBA

Spider-Man battles the Sinister Six

One of Spider-Man’s most highly-anticipated spin-off films, Sony has long had The Sinister Six in the works. The film will follow the team-up of six notable Spider-Man villains, which many believe may have been spoiled by No Way Home’s villain team-up of Doc Ock, Green Goblin, Electro, Sandman, and Lizard. While it was believed that the film was going to be canceled upon Sony’s fixation on its MCU deal with Disney, Amy Pascal clarified in 2018 that The Sinister Six was still in the works, though she was waiting for director Drew Goddard “to be ready to direct it” as he also wrote the script (via Vanity Fair). There’s still no word on the Spider-Man film’s progress, but it’s not yet dead.

Venom 3 - TBA

Spider-Man No Way Home Venom MCU Exit Explained SR

Following the successes of both Venom films, Sony announced a third installment would be produced for Eddie Brock. Considering Venom/Eddie Brock was featured in the mid-credits scene of Spider-Man: No Way Home, the MCU seems to be setting up the character’s introduction following 2021’s Venom: Let There Be Carnage. Venom star Tom Hardy confirmed back in 2018 that he had signed on for Venom 3, while hinting that the film would include the multiverse - a major theme of the MCU Phase 4. Andy Serkis has expressed interest in returning for Venom 3, with the director and Hardy kicking around villain ideas for the third installment. Pascal has revealed the film is already underway, with little to no details on a release date or plot.

Madame Web - TBA

Madame Web

One of Sony’s most recent Spider-Man movie developments is Madame Web, which was reportedly announced to be in the works in 2019. Collider reported that Sony hired Morbius writers Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless to write the script for a Spider-Man universe film centered on Madame Web, a clairvoyant mutant connected to a life support system shaped like a spider-web. The Spider-Man ally movie doesn’t have an official director, but it’s been rumored by sites like IGN that S.J. Clarkson is attached. Since no screenplay nor director has been officially confirmed, it’s unlikely that Madame Web will see a release date any time soon.

Untitled Olivia Wilde Movie - TBA

While Olivia Wilde has only helmed and released one film to date, that hasn’t stopped her from becoming one of Hollywood’s most popular directors. The actress-turned-director is already attached to several movies post-Booksmart - some in post-production like Don’t Worry Darling - and Sony has tapped into her talents for a female-led Spider-Man film. Wilde confirmed on Twitter in 2020 that a secret Marvel film was in the works, with later details rumoring the Sony movie to be about Spider-Woman. The Illuminerdi later reported in June 2021 that Wilde’s Marvel movie would follow Jessica Drew’s iteration of Spider-Woman, though the director has yet to confirm such details. Considering Wilde already has a busy schedule of upcoming films, it’s safe to say her Spider-Man movie won’t be released in the near future.

Spider-Man 4-6 - TBA

Tom Holland looking up in Spider-Man No Way Home

Although it was long-suspected that Spider-Man: No Way Home would complete the Jon Watts trilogy and serve as a solo-movie sendoff for Holland’s Peter Parker, producer Amy Pascal turned around with the hopeful announcement that three more Spider-Man films were on the way. Very little is known about the Spider-Man sequel trilogy, but No Way Home left plenty of Easter eggs and storyline set-ups to hint at where the characters could go. At the end of No Way Home, MJ and Ned are set to go to MIT in the Fall, Peter decided against revealing himself to them again, and has created a new Spidey suit to continue his superheroics in New York City. With the Multiverse confirmed and Peter having already been mentored by two of the most iconic Spider-Men of all time, there are countless directions that the upcoming movies could take. While the MCU’s second trilogy isn’t officially confirmed nor is Tom Holland announced to reprise his Peter Parker role, Holland has voiced his opinion that he hopes the next Spidey movies after Spider-Man No Way Home are more diverse with its titular hero(es).
