Mar 4, 2005 Hey Folks, In case anyone is interested Fram makes the cartridge oil filter for the come with the two O-rings. I called AutoZone and they don't stock it. I called Pep Boys and they don't stock it either. However, Autobarn stores in New York
have it. Hope this helps. Joined

Great info! Did they tell you how much they wanted for it, and was it a much better price than your dealer? Joined Feb 8, 2005 · 3,285 Posts
Why must it be Fram... :grr: I refuse to give Fram my money for ANYTHING until they get rid of the unsafe "cardboard" oil filters. Joined Feb 14, 2005 · 86 Posts

Mar 4, 2005 OK?............is the Mazda filter really any better?
2004/2005 Mazda3 2.3L.
The part # is: CH9641
It
It sells for $8.99. I'm not sure what a Mazda dealer is selling it for and if it includes the two O-rings.

I'll stick with the Mazda filter if Fram is my only other choice thank you. Of course the more filters out there the better. Purolator has had a filter in their system for several months though I have yet to see it in stores.

What is wrong with Fram??? :dunno:
Are they that bad. They are OEM for FORD (Motorcraft) and probably others too.

The Purolator part # is L15505 I couldn't find anyone who carries this either. I'll use Mazda filters........but if I can't get to the dealer it's nice to know that my local Autobarn stocks the Fram filter, and they are open everyday.

RockAuto also list a Fram oil filter PH9566 for the 2005 Mazda3 2.3L The other one for 2004 Mazda3 2.3L looks right in the
picture.
That is wrong according to the Fram rep. I just spoke with.
The PH9566 is for the 2.0L as it's a spin on filter not a cartridge.
The correct Fram oil filter cartridge number for the 2.3L is CH9641
My local Mazda dealer sells it for $8.00.
$4.15 a piece in bulk is a great deal!!!! Jump on it!!!

Has anyone bought the case of 12 filters from Rock Auto? Thought I would see if anyone had and how their experience was both with Rock Auto and the filters themselves. The picture they show certainly looks like the exact same thing that I have gotten from the dealership, except that the dealer charged me a total of like $13 bucks for the filter and
the 2 O-rings. Seperate charge for the filter and for each O-ring!!!I like the idea of having oil filters for the next 4 - 5 years already stocked in the garage.

The new cartridge filter part number comes supplied with the 2 o-rings. My local dealership's price is now cheaper for the combo part number, than the old filter part number was, alone.
