Customer states that after vehicle warms up and he is driving it on the road it stalls out. Also states that he has to let it cool down and it is easy to restart. Customer wants me to replace the camshaft and crankshaft sensors. How much should I charge as an outside source?

The Camshaft Position (CMP) Sensor (5.3L VIN T) is located on the top center rear of engine. Here is the location of the crankshaft sensor which it is more likely to be. You should charge about an 1.5 hours for both, plus parts.

Check out the images (Below). Please let us know if you need anything else to get the problem fixed.

What are the signs of a failing cam sensor?

A glowing check engine light, stalling, poor acceleration and bad fuel mileage are all possible signs your camshaft position sensor may be failing. Gone are the days of carburetors and distributors, replaced by a variety of sensors that help a car's computer get the maximum performance out of the engine.

Can I replace a camshaft position sensor myself?

You can replace your camshaft sensor yourself if you are comfortable working on your engine, or you can hire a mechanic. Fortunately, you can offset the expense of a technician by saving over $800 annually on auto insurance.

What happens if the camshaft position sensor fails?

Car Will Not Start: Over time, as the camshaft position sensor fails, the signal it sends to the engine control module weakens. When the engine no longer receives the signal, you will not be able to start your car. Engine Misfires: A failing camshaft position sensor can cause your engine to misfire.
