2012 yamaha v star 950 oil filter

Does anyone know what the part number is for the Walmart oil filter that fits the V-Star 950? I searched all over and cannot find one.

PH-6017A is the Fram filter you may find at Walmart, some do not carry all. On another note you get what you pay for, let's say Frams are inexpensive.

WalMart SuperTech ST7317 (3.25 in long - Found at Wal-Mart and can be had for around $2. Easily the best value if price is a concern.)
Purolator PureONE PL14612 (2.5 in long - Can be found at PepBoys)
Mobil 1 M1-108 (2.5 in long - Can be found at PepBoys, however sometimes may need to ask an associate as it may not be on the shelf)

I believe you get what you pay for. Wix filters have the best fliteration of most readily available filters. Just like using a good oil a quality filter is just as important.

Agreed Doug, Wix is a class filter, AMERICAN made I believe. Yes they do cost more than many, but it's like the guy on the tv ad says, "pay me now or pay me later" Ride safe

I find it interesting that AMERICAN made is an issue when it's getting put on a Japanese bike.

I know a lot of people that swear by the $2.99 jobbie at Wally World. They're not necessarily bad just because they're cheap.

My friend, not to argue at all, but did you read Doug's post about Wix having the best filteration? For the boys that don't intend to keep a bike for many years, yes any old filter will do, get you by to the next bike. And yes Sugar Bear wears the American flag in his heart and on his sleeve, when a company in the states can match the quality of Yamaha, I will for sure take a look. I once saw a picture in Easyrider(strictly anti rice grinder) with a close up of the front brake section( Of A HARLEY!!) and it clearly stated"made in Japan" Go figure. Ride safe, have fun

Have you cut open either one of them to look inside? You can certainly buy whatever filter you want, but to suggest that someone cares less about their ride because they're not naive enough to think higher price = more quality is not necessarily true. Could be, but not necessarily.

The SuperTech was the one I got from Walmart.

Thats why I didnt comment on your choice thats a good filter at a bargain price.

I like the KN&N filter. It has the 13mm nut which is so nice come oil change time. I hate trying to shimmy an oil filter wrench in the space provided. That nut makes the 13$ price worth it to me. (Also you can never go wrong with KN&N)

950 oil filter

Thas may sound like a stupid question, but is the stock Yamaha filter so expensive that it's not being used? Or are filters that are being suggested better than stock?
I just bought a new 950 tourer and was just thinking about using the stock filters and yamaha lube.

Yamaha doesn't make their branded filters, just like they don't make their own oil. They (Yamaha) puts out a spec and licenses/brands a filter/oil from a vendor that meets those specs. The specs allow some differentiation to get the same results. So you look you decide you buy what you're comfortable with.
