I have a 2011 Jeep Compass that will not turn over. It cranks and tries to start but will not start, and I have come to find out that there is not any spark. I was told to try to change the crankshaft position sensor. I have searched and searched online but there is not much about these vehicles. I cannot find the crankshaft sensor anywhere. Does anyone happen to know where this sensor is located? Or any other suggestions as to why there is not any spark??

Thanks for any help you can give!

Hi huggy11911,

While I don't have any technical training/advice, I can offer to assist if you decide to use your Jeep dealership for service! Please feel free to send us a PM if you use them for repairs, and we'd be happy to reach out and follow up on your behalf.

You might have luck in finding out where that sensor is by calling the parts department at your local Jeep dealer, sometimes those guys will tell you. They have access to all the diagrams that tech's do because in a way they are like an extension of those tech's.

Hey Huggy just changed my crankshaft sensor today. I had the same problem with my 2011 jeep compass awd. It just started cutting off while driving. Code said crankshaft position sensor. You cant access it from underneath on an awd the trans. blocks everything. So remove the top cover an air filter box. Then look at the top right rear side of the engine you'll see the camshaft sensor.. THIS IS NOT IT... looks the same...but the crankshaft sensor wire is binded to that wire... follow that wire down behind the right rear of the block. I used a small mirror an flashlight to see it... you will see a heat cover.. i jus bent it out the way an the sensor is under it. It has one 10mm bolt holding it in. Use a 12 inch ext. to get to it. Wiggle the sensor an it will eventually come out. No prying necessary. If that wasnt tricky enough getting that bolt back in is even harder. I was halfway in the engine bay. I used the extension by hand an used a napkin over the bolt too hold the bolt in the ext tight so you wont drop it. Be patient you'll get it.. start to finish took me 1.5 hrs. Hope this helps anyone thinking about doing this themselves.

Thanks Revs2017!!
This guy nailed it! He lays it out for ya and only takes about 30mins to take out and get back in. (And I’m only a YouTube mechanic) I did the same when putting it back in, shoved a thin piece of packaging to hold in the bolt to the socket... u don’t wanna drop it!
I had the same issue with our 2011 Jeep Compass shutting off while driving. Tried the top sensor but wasn’t it.
Couldn’t have found it with out Revs review and for This website!
Thanks again!
