Rakuten Insight is a paid survey app from the company behind Rakuten, the most well-known cash-back shopping portal in the United States. The app is only available for Android devices, but we found it easy to take surveys on iPhone via their mobile-optimized website. We earned $9.62 per hour during our testing period, making this one of the best-paying survey apps we’ve reviewed. The downside to Rakuten Insights is that the number of available surveys is limited compared to bigger platforms like Swagbucks and Survey Junkie. Survey Junkie has long been regarded as one of the best market research companies. The platform has more than 10 million members, high ratings from real app users, an “Excellent” score on Trustpilot, and a low minimum cash-out of just $5. Survey Junkie stood out in our tests for having one of the largest inventories of surveys, meaning you can earn on your own schedule instead of waiting to be sent an opportunity. While there’s no official sign-up bonus, Survey Junkie offers new users a short list of high-value tasks, such as filling out a general profile survey, confirming your email and watching a “how it works” video. You’ve probably taken a SurveyMonkey survey, as hundreds of thousands of businesses of all types use the company’s software to gather customer feedback. While their SurveyMonkey Rewards app isn’t as well known, it stood out in our testing as we earned $13.56 per hour during the research for our review — well above the average for survey apps. Plus, surveys on the platform are quick and easy, often taking just two or three minutes to complete. The big downside is that hardly any surveys are available. In over a month of testing, we were offered only nine survey opportunities. However, this was enough to meet the $5 minimum cash-out, and it took very little time or effort. InboxDollars is a popular money making app that lets you earn through surveys as well as a variety of other tasks. It’s owned and operated by the same company that runs Swagbucks, but there are some key differences between the two — including that it’s one of the few sites where you can get paid to read emails. InboxDollars also rewards you in real money (not points) for the activities you complete. The downside? Google Opinion RewardsWhile Google Opinion Rewards had the highest hourly rate among all the survey apps we tested at $22.24 per hour, it also offered the lowest level of survey opportunities. Additionally, during our testing, the people who received survey opportunities were those who regularly used Google services (like Google Maps) or who owned multiple Google products (Android device, Google Home, etc.). Those who didn’t use Google products received zero opportunities. The surveys on Google Opinion Rewards were the shortest we tested, often just two or three questions long and taking less than a minute to complete. They also tend to reveal how much Google knows about you. For example, you might be asked about a show you watched on your Android TV, or how your experience was at a local service provider you drove to the previous day using directions you received through Google Maps. Rakuten is one of the highest-rated cash-back apps, paying as much as 40% cash-back when you shop at over 3,500 partnered merchants. Using Rakuten is easy. Just open the app and search for the retailer you want to shop at. Click the link to visit their store, then shop as you normally would. One of The Ways To Wealth’s editors is a consistent Rakuten user and has saved nearly $800 over a span of three years: To make money with in-store purchases, you have to link your credit or debit card inside the Rakuten app, and activate each cash-back offer. It works like this: you use the app to scan the barcode of the product you purchased at the store, and then you upload a photo of your receipt. Often, you’ll have to watch a 15-second video clip to have the money posted to your account. Both my wife and I use the app, often stacking one of the many similar apps to Ibotta to double-dip on rewards. We’ve found the 30 seconds it takes to always be time well spent. Unlike many receipt scanning apps, Fetch Rewards works at any store. There are no barcodes to scan or coupons to clip, and you don’t have to buy specific products to earn points. The big downside to Fetch is that each receipt only pays a few cents. Branded as “the loyalty program for gamers,” Mistplay is a free gaming app that rewards you with points for playing games on your Android smartphone (an iOS version is in development). In some cases, you’re required to provide Mistplay with feedback on the game itself; in others, you have to reach certain in-game milestones (like leveling up). Your points can be redeemed for gift cards to major retailers like Amazon, Starbucks and the Nintendo store. And it’s one of the few game apps that pay cash via PayPal. Nielsen Computer and Mobile PanelYou’ve likely heard of Nielsen, as they’re one of the largest research companies around and very well-known for publishing TV viewership ratings. But Nielsen has also published a lot of research around smartphone usage, which is based on data they collect from the Nielsen Computer and Mobile Panel app. The app sits in the background of your phone while Nielsen analyzes how you use your device. All data gathered by Nielsen is anonymous. Based on their published insights, what they analyze is how much time people are spending on their phones and the types of activities (browsing the web, watching videos, etc.). That means you’ll have less scheduling flexibility than with UberEats (see below), but it also means you’ll usually have a more consistent flow of orders (because there are fewer drivers working at any given moment). Full-service shoppers with Instacart both shop and deliver, but if you don’t have access to a car, you can be an in-store shopper only. And then there are gig economy apps like DoorDash and Uber, which are fantastic options when you’re looking for a part-time job or a side hustle. This category of money making apps obviously requires real work, but it offers unmatched flexibility and pay that typically ranges from $15 to $25 when tips are factored in. What are the best apps for making money fast? Selling apps, such as Craigslist and eBay, are your best bets for making money fast. Beyond selling, Uber Eats and DoorDash are also good options. These two apps enable you to make decent money on a per-hour basis, as well as to cash-out your earnings daily (for a small fee). These are among the highest and fastest-paying paying apps you’ll find. Are money making apps safe? Money making apps are generally safe, but there are some things to keep in mind before downloading them. First, understand that virtually all money making apps collect some form of user data. This may include basic information like your demographics (age, location, etc.), but it may also include more personal data like your internet browsing habits. If you’re concerned about data collection, make sure to read the app’s privacy policy. Of course, privacy policies are often written in legalese, so it’s a good idea to refer to the company’s FAQ or knowledge base to see if they provide clear and easy-to-understand details about what data is collected and how it is (or isn’t) used.
