1. Switch to Private Instagram Account

Many Instagrammers prefer to keep an open account on Instagram so that their content can reach a wider audience. However, while this setting works great if you’re a content creator or influencer, if you want to post something that you don’t want many people to know about, things can get complicated.

If you want to change your public account to a private one, the following steps will guide you through the process:

• Open the Instagram app on your device and login to your account.
• Head over to your profile by click on small profile icon at the bottom.

Suppose there’s someone you don’t like, but because you’re related to them, or they’re close with your other friends, you have to tolerate them as well. The same can happen on Instagram, too; there might be some followers you don’t particularly like but can’t remove either.

So, how would you hide your posts from them? Can the new restricting feature on Instagram help you with it? Unfortunately, not.

Let’s tell you exactly how restricting someone works on Instagram. Once you restrict someone, they would be unable to see your last seen and active status, and all their messages to you will be delivered as message requests.

However, as far as seeing your posts is concerned, restricting them doesn’t change a thing about it. They can still see all your posts and both like and comment on them; but their comments will only be visible to two people: them and you. In other words, restricting them will have no effect on the visibility of your posts to them.

How to Hide Instagram Story from Certain Followers

Anyone who uses Instagram actively must be familiar with how Instagram stories work. Stories are all the pictures or videos that you upload on your profile for only 24 hours. In other words, Instagram stories are more about the small daily life updates instead of the special pictures that you want to keep on your profile for a longer period.

However, this doesn’t mean that your stories cannot stay on your profile for longer. Well, we just said that the lifespan of a story is 24 hours. Close Friends list on Instagram is a feature that allows you to create a list of your closest followers on the platform, with whom you share everything. However, this option is only applicable to your stories, not your posts.

So, when you upload a story and select the green star while uploading it, only the people who’ve been added to your Close Friends list will be able to see them. Do you want to know how it’s done? We’ll tell you all about it in the following steps:

Step 1: Open the Instagram app on your smartphone. Go to your profile, click on the three lines on the top right corner to find a scroll-upmenu. From that menu, tap on Settings to go to the Settings tab.

Step 2: From the list of available options, find and tap on Privacy to go to the privacy settings of your account.

Step 3: On the Privacy tab, locate the Interactions section and find Story from the list of options within the section. Once you find Story, tap on it.

Step 4: On the Story tab, the second option will be Close Friends. If you’ve never used this feature before, you’ll find 0 People written under it. Tap on it, and you’ll be taken to a different page, with a search bar on top and a list of suggestions (from your follower’s list) underneath.

Step 5: On this list, you’ll notice a blue Add button right next to the names of all your followers. Scroll through this list and tap on Add next to the profile of every person you want to share your stories with, and your list is ready.

Another interesting thing about this feature is that Instagram doesn’t limit the number of people you can add to this list. So, whether you have three closest friends or three hundred, Instagram wouldn’t mind.

2. By using the “Hide Story From” feature

We’d recommend you to go with this alternative when you have a problem with some particular people, and you want all your stories to be hidden from them. You can add an unlimited number of people to this list as well, but remember that they’ll be restricted from viewing all your stories unless you remove their names yourself.

Now, if you’re planning to hide your stories from some specific people, you’ll need to follow the first three steps from the last section. Once you’re on the Story tab, follow these steps:

Step 1: Under the Viewing section on this tab, the first option you’ll find is: Hide Story From.

Below this, you’ll find 0 People written; tap on it. You’ll find a similar list of your followers as before, but with an empty circle next to their names this time.

Step 2: Once you tap on these empty circles, they’ll turn blue, with a white tick in between. And every person you check here will be restricted from seeing all stories you upload after this point.
