Country flags that are red white and green

In the 14th century the coat of arms of Tsar Ivan Shishman, the most powerful Bulgarian ruler, was a lion represented in gold on a red shield. This design was incorporated in some early Bulgarian revolutionary flags raised against the Ottoman Empire in the 19th century. Nevertheless, the national flag was derived from a different source—the ethnic association of Bulgarians with their Slavic brothers the Russians. The Russian horizontal tricolour of white-blue-red was modified in the Bulgarian flag by the substitution of green for blue.

From the time of its official recognition (April 16, 1879) until the end of the monarchy following World War II, the national flag was simply the white-green-red tricolour, although the naval flag added a red canton with a yellow lion. When the communists came to power, their coat of arms, with its red star and other socialist symbols, was added in the upper hoist corner of the flag; four variations of that design existed between 1948 and 1990. After the downfall of the communist government, the old plain tricolour was reestablished on November 27, 1990. The white of the flag is said to stand for peace, love, and freedom, while green emphasizes the agricultural wealth of Bulgaria. Red is for the independence struggle and military courage.

No matter where you go, you will always find a red, white and green flag. There are many countries that have these colors in their flags. Here are some examples:

Mexico

The Mexican flag is green, white and red. The meaning of colors is that of hope, purity and patriotism. The eagle in the center shows independence, strength and freedom; it's also a symbol of power and sovereignty.

The three stars on top of the eagle represent the three states that make up Mexico: Guanajuato, Coahuila and Nuevo León. The red and white stripes on the bottom represent liberty and equality for all Mexicans.

Republic of Abkhazia

Abkhazia is a small, semi-autonomous region in the Caucasus that has been independent for over 25 years. The nation has a flag with three horizontal stripes: green, white, and red.

The green stripe represents nature and agriculture—two things Abkhazia has plenty of! But it also represents Islam because Muslims are often referred to as “green people” in parts of Central Asia and Africa. People who identify as Muslim might have a special connection to this color.

The white stripe stands for purity, peace and tranquility—in other words, having everything go right as planned! People who like order may gravitate toward this part of the flag because it means everything will go smoothly if they follow it closely enough (and by “following closely enough” we mean doing exactly what they want).

Finally there's the red stripe for bravery and strength--the blood shed by martyrs throughout history during times when persecution was at its worst!

These three colors are important values within Abkhazian culture so naturally they needed something that would represent those ideas while still being recognizable internationally.

Oman

The flag of Oman is green, white, and red (top to bottom) with an eagle in the center. The eagle has been a symbol of Oman since the 10th century.

Oman is located in Southwest Asia on the Arabian Peninsula and borders Saudi Arabia and Yemen to its north-west. Dubai was a part of Oman until 1971 when it became independent after gaining its own independence from Britain in 1971 as well as other parts of Arabia including Qatar

Burundi

The mandate called for a new flag that would symbolize the two main ethnic groups in Rwanda—the Hutu and Tutsi. The flag was adopted in 1967 as an emblem of unity after a violent civil war. It is also used by many football teams from Burundi, including two clubs which play in the CAF Champions League (AFC Leopards FC and AS CND).

New England

It includes six states: Connecticut, Massachusetts, Vermont, New Hampshire, Maine and Rhode Island.

The region covers about 508,000 square miles (1.3 million km²), making it slightly larger than Italy or Japan's Hokkaido island—but half as big as Texas if you include all of its coastal waters. The area has a population of more than 25 million people spread over 15 states (not including New Jersey or Pennsylvania).

Hungary

Hungary is a landlocked country in central Europe, bordered by Austria, Slovakia, Poland and Slovenia to the north; Romania and Ukraine to the east; Serbia and Croatia to the south; Slovenia and Italy to the west. The capital city is Budapest.

The Hungarian flag has three horizontal bands of red, white and green. The red symbolizes the country's communist past, while green is meant to represent hope for future prosperity. White signifies peace.

Iran

The flag of Iran is green, white and red with an eagle in the center. It has a white crescent moon and five-pointed star. The Iranian flag is also known as the Persian flag.

Italy

It is based on the banner of the Cispadane Republic (1797), which in turn was derived from the colors used by Milan's soldiers in 1796 during their campaign to conquer Lombardy.

As with many other flags, there are many stories behind how each color came to be used on this particular flag. The colors red, white, and green are said to symbolize the blood spilled during battle; peace; and hope for a bright future.

Another origin story claims that Napoleon asked his generals what they wanted as reward when they won his wars for him; they requested three things: "Honor, Glory and Money." 

He replied "Gentlemen! You shall have only two things: honor and money." So honor became gold silver blue! And money became black gray yellow!

Algeria

The Zenica–Doboj Canton is a canton of Bosnia and Herzegovina, with the official name "Zenica-Doboj Canton" in Bosnian language (Canton Zenica-Doboj). In Serbian it is called "Zenica i Dobojski kanton". It was formed in 1998, along with the cantons of Sarajevo and Tuzla. The administrative center of the Zenica–Doboj Canton is in the city of Zenica. Before its formation, it was part of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina; it had previously been part of the Republika Srpska.

The flag used by this canton has a white background consisting of eight quadrants. In each quadrant there are three green triangles pointing toward their corners—two large ones on top and one smaller one at bottom—and between each triangle there are four red stripes forming an X shape over all four sides:

Seychelles

The Seychelles flag is the most colorful of all the flags. The three colors of the flag—green, white and blue-and their placement on the flag—represent three main islands: Mahe (white circle), Praslin (blue crescent moon) and La Digue.

It was adopted on June 7th 1976 after becoming an independent country from Britain in 1976.

Duchy of Anhalt

Anhalt is a former duchy in Germany. It was created as a partition of Anhalt-Zerbst in 1253, and was elevated to the status of an independent principality in 1806.

Anhalt became a member state of the German Empire in 1871, although it had been ruled by the House of Ascania since 1565. The flag of Duchy Anhalt was officially adopted on February 2nd, 1918, and features three equal horizontal bands colored green ( agriculture), white ( peace), and red ( industry).

However, this flag has also been used as an unofficial symbol by members of the House of Ascania since 1565, who retain their own coat-of-arms featuring a rampant Or horse with golden bridle on a field Gules lined Argent charged with eight lozenges Argent each bearing one cross Azure surmounted by another Argent.

Tatarstan

Tatarstan is a federal subject of the Russian Federation. The capital is Kazan, located in the Volga region, in the center of European Russia. The area of the region is 4,500 square kilometers.

Wales

The flag of Wales is a red dragon on a white and green background. The colors are derived from the Welsh heraldic emblem, which show red and green as the national colors of Wales.

It was officially adopted in 1959, though its origins date back to at least 1801 when it was used by Arthur Wellesley, 1st Duke of Wellington (a British general who led forces against Napoleon) as his personal standard while leading military campaigns against France during the Napoleonic Wars.

Madagascar

Madagascar's flag is a red, white and green tricolor with a red disk in the center. The disk represents the sun rising over the island, which is sometimes known as the “red island”.

The colors red, white and green on Madagascar’s flag stand for courage, peace and prosperity.

Trujillo State

The flag of Trujillo State is white, red and blue. It features a horizontal tricolor with the upper half being blue, the middle white and the lower half red.

There are three stars placed in a triangular pattern at each corner of the flag with two stars on top and one star underneath. The three stars represent unity (white), courage (red) and strength (blue).

Areguá

The Basque Country flag is a red and white cross with an olive branch in the center of the cross. The olive branch is a symbol of peace, which is why it can be seen on many flags.

The Basque people are descended from ancient tribes who lived in what is now Spain, France and Portugal. While their flag may look like other European countries' flags at first glance, they do not have any official relation to any other country's flag or coat of arms.

Belarus

The Belarusian flag has a red horizontal bar with a white stripe on the left, a green stripe in the middle and a red stripe on the right. The flag was adopted in 1995.

The Belarusian national coat of arms consists of an eagle holding an Orthodox cross in its beak and standing on a shield decorated with patterns taken from local designs: zig-zag lines, diamonds and wavy lines. A crown is above the eagle's head. 

The crest consists of wheat ears laid out horizontally over two crossed open hands joined at the fingertips that hold a golden ribbon bearing the word "Бaecгaвчынa" ("Biechowo", meaning "homeland"), all placed over branches of oak leaves with acorns between them.

Amambay Department

You've probably seen the flag before and not realized that it is a combination of green, white and red. If you look closely at the flag, you can see that there is a golden lion on a yellow background in the center of the flag.

The national symbol of Bulgaria has been used since 1879, when it replaced its first national symbol: an eagle holding a cross in its claws.

The current coat of arms was designed by French artist Pierre Eugene Du Simitiere to commemorate the 100th anniversary of Bulgaria's liberation from Ottoman rule at the Congress of Berlin in 1878. 

It features three lions rampant holding swords in their paws; above them are five six-pointed stars on top of what looks like an upside down crescent moon (this represents Christianity).
