Difference between graco ready to grow and lx

So now, I'm really looking into the Graco Ready to grow which was my first option before contours or City select (which we are not doing, way to pricey)

Anybody familiar, with the Graco double stroller? I like how it doesn't look to huge, I've seen it around alot.... I'm just wondering if my toddler would be able to nap in the front seat. She's about To be 2yrs old on January. Isn't big but kinda long eventually will grow more. Another concern is the canopy, does it even protect from sun? Can I scoot the canopy a little more forward to protect from the sun hitting babies face??

I find it convenient and cheap, specially bcus I can have my toddler sit or stand once she's older. She likes to walk alot...

You will find a model of Graco stroller in every double stroller category there is. In this post, we will help you understand what each of the categories are, who they suit best, and which Graco double stroller is the top performer in each category.

Graco is a trusted and well-established brand. What we love best about it though is that their strollers are fairly priced and usually in the mid to lower end of the market – without being cheap.

So we have looked at the full Graco range and rated each model against each other so you can find what is most suitable to your circumstances.

Graco Double Stroller Design Options

Most of the double strollers included are intended to be used as a standard in-line stroller. However, all of them can be configured in multiple different ways.

Difference between graco ready to grow and lx

So first it is important that you understand each of the standard double stroller designs. This will help you recognize just how clever some of the convertible strollers are that Graco has designed:

  • Tandem – You will recognize this easily with the basic setup of two seats in a straight line.
  • Sit and Stand – A standard front seat, and a standing platform, and a bench seat at the rear.
  • Travel System – Uses a car seat that can clip straight into the stroller frame so you can move baby around undisturbed.

Two of the strollers on our list can be used as all three of these!

We have not included any side-by-side double strollers on our list. The Fastaction Fold Duo would have been included but it has been out of stock for some time as we suspect it may have been discontinued by Graco.

We will continue to monitor if a similar model becomes available and assess from there.

Quick Feature Comparison

There are a few basic features and limitations that every stroller will have. To avoid repetition in the reviews just assume the following to be true for each model:

  • Every toddler seat has a cup holder.
  • Only Graco infant car seats will be compatible (more on this later).
  • They all have one hand fold (or are very easy to fold).

Here is a more detailed comparison of our top-rated Graco designs.

Best Graco Double Strollers in 2022

1. Graco Ready2Grow LX 2.0 – Best Overall

Difference between graco ready to grow and lx

Configurations: Tandem + Sit and Stand + Travel System

The Graco Ready2grow was our top recommendation for the best double stroller on the market today. So of course it has to be our top recommended stroller from the Graco range.

You have the ultimate in flexibility with this stroller and can use it as a regular tandem stroller, sit and stand, or a travel system (Graco car seats to be bought separately):

  • Use as a regular tandem stroller with a front-facing stroller seat and the rear seat facing you.
  • Alternate a stroller seat with a compatible car seat (or two infant car seats) and use it as a travel system.
  • Use one stroller seat only, and use the rear bench seat or standing platform for a sit and stand configuration.

As you can see you get the ultimate flexibility to accommodate a growing family or just the mood of your kids.

If you are traveling close to home and have an older, energetic kid, they can just stand on the rear platform and take in their surroundings.

If it is a longer day then the two stroller seats will allow you to strap your children in when on the move and (hopefully!) they can fall asleep. You can easily use it with just one, or two children as needed.

You have the option of using a 3 or 5 point safety harness on each seat offering a safe experience.

The wheels also have built-in suspension that will glide over any bumpy and rough terrain while maintaining good maneuverability through the front swivel wheels.

It has an easy and quick folding and setting up method you can do with one hand. While I wouldn’t call it a lightweight stroller relative to other brands, it is the lightest on our list.

Other convenient features include a storage basket underneath, a parent’s tray with cup holders, a removable child tray, and 2 lined removable canopies you can attach when your babies need more sun protection.

The only downside is that once folded up the stroller is still quite thick.

Pros

  • High weight capacity
  • Multiple configurations
  • Feature-packed
  • Great value

Cons

  • 20″ thick when folded up

2. Graco Modes Duo – Best for Twins

Difference between graco ready to grow and lx

Configurations: Tandem + Sit and Stand + Travel System

A close second is the Modes Duo stroller. The only reason this was not our no. 1 pick is because of how heavy the stroller is, and the higher price – you may not gain enough practical value for it to be worth the extra money.

But let’s start with the positives.

If you thought the Ready2Grow was versatile you ain’t seen nothing yet. The Duo can be configured into 27 different positions. I cannot imagine that anyone would use that many (hence the lower rating) but it is impressive nonetheless.

This includes all of the combinations mentioned earlier where you can alternate between two seats, car seats, or a sit & stand platform (with a rear seat).

It is a more heavy-duty stroller with both seats able to handle a full 50 lb load. So if you have two kids of equal size then you do not have to worry about a weight capacity imbalance potentially making things unsafe.

Unfortunately, this also means that the stronger frame weighs much more. At 42 lbs it is 16 lbs heavier than the Ready2Grow and a serious limitation for those without the strength to lift it.

You have larger 8.5″ rear wheels to handle the load which also makes for a smoother ride and easier navigation of obstacles. You also have lockable front swivel wheels which can make maneuvering this bigger unit easier.

The other benefit of the big frame is the extra-large storage basket underneath. It is huge and will be able to store anything you could possibly need for a day out…. Or perhaps your groceries if you need to take this shopping.

The price is higher than the other Graco strollers on our list. But is still very reasonable for a quality double stroller.

Difference between graco ready to grow and lx

Pros

  • Highest weight capacity (100 lbs)
  • Good toddler stroller
  • 27 possible configurations
  • Huge storage basket
  • Large wheels providing a smooth ride

Difference between graco ready to grow and lx

Cons

  • Most expensive
  • Much heavier
  • Graco car seat only

3. Graco DuoGlider – Best on a Budget

Difference between graco ready to grow and lx

Configurations: Tandem + Travel System

If you are on a tighter budget then the DuoGlider performs just as well as the top two strollers on our list with a few small exceptions.

  • The weight limit is lower at 40 lbs per seat – this still gets you years of use before your kids get that old.
  • The wheels are smaller and the ride a bit bumpier.
  • The length of the stroller is 10″ shorter than the Modes Duo which means it is a bit more crowded.
  • No sit & stand configuration.

If these limitations do not bother you then you can pick up a bargain! You will find many of the same features included and comparable performance in other areas with this stroller.

The frame is still compatible with an infant car seat carrier (Graco only of course!), you still have the included baby trays and parents tray, and you still have plenty of storage (just not as much as the longer frame would allow).

If you are of a smaller build the shorter and lighter frame may even be preferred to the heavier model. However, this is still 3 lbs heavier than the Ready2Grow.

Difference between graco ready to grow and lx

Pros

  • Lower price offers good value
  • Functionality very similar
  • Included a parent tray

Difference between graco ready to grow and lx

Cons

  • Lower weight limit per seat
  • No standing platform at rear
  • Shorter stroller frame

4. Graco Roomfor2 – Best Sit & Stand

Difference between graco ready to grow and lx

Configurations: Sit and Stand + Travel System

While the top two on our list can function as a sit and stand stroller, the Roomfor2 is designed especially for that purpose. It is cheaper yet the frame is capable of supporting a full 50 lb load in each seat.

It has the narrowest frame on our list and is also the shortest by 5″-6″. This makes it easy to maneuver but also less suited to taller parents.

There are some clever elements in the design such as the pivoting child snack tray that allows a quick and easy entry to the front seat.

The seat also lays almost completely flat which makes it comfortable for your child when sleeping without that droopy neck they can fall into when upright.

In fact, when we looked at all of the best sit and stand strollers on the market the Graco stood out for having the steepest reclining seat.

The seat at the rear part of the frame is also padded which makes it comfortable for the older child to sit on.

The smaller frame means less storage space, but you can still fit in all the essentials for a day out.

Difference between graco ready to grow and lx

Pros

  • Narrow and easy to maneuver
  • Up to 50lbs per child
  • Removable child’s tray

Difference between graco ready to grow and lx

Cons

  • Smaller storage basket
  • Less suitable taller parents
  • Less compact when folded

5. Graco Uno2Duo – Best Travel System

Difference between graco ready to grow and lx

Configuration: Travel System + Sit and Stand

The Uno2Duo is primarily a single stroller and travel system (the car seat is included).

Only one seat is included but you have the option to upgrade to an extra seat if you want it. We like this as you can buy the single version when you have your first child and upgrade later when you have your second child.

If you end up with a large age gap then you may not need a back seat as there is a standing platform at the rear which is great for older kids.

One issue with the additional rear seat is that it sits at the base of the frame and the view is mostly limited to the back of the front seat. This is the main reason that the Uno2 rates lower on our list – it’s not the best experience for a curious child.

A clever element of the design is the extendable stroller frame. When you are ready to add your second seat you can extend the frame by 5″ to create the room for this…. A few extra inches can always make you smile.

You can also use the front seat as an infant bassinet which allows you to use this with a newborn. With the stroller designed primarily as a travel system, this allows you to easily move an infant from the stroller to the car easily and without disturbing them.

Difference between graco ready to grow and lx

Pros

  • Includes car seat
  • Extendable frame
  • Standing platform or extra seat
  • 50 lb limit for both seats
  • Great for newborns

Difference between graco ready to grow and lx

Cons

  • The second seat sits low on the frame
  • Requires extra seat purchase

Car Seat Compatibility

A recurring comment in the above stroller reviews (except the Uno2Duo) is that the Graco strollers are only compatible with their own car seats.

Buying the Graco Snug Ride Snug lock Click Connect Infant Car Seat will ensure compatibility with each of the strollers above that can have that travel system functionality.

You may need two car seats if you want to use the double travel system functionality. Which most of these can accommodate.

Final Word

As you can see, there is a Graco stroller model to suit multiple lifestyles and all at reasonable prices. Even the cheapest stroller will do a great job for your family and last many years.

We have only looked at inline strollers but this was only due to a lack of side-by-side options available.

Our top recommendation is the Ready2Grow LX 2.0. It is a great double stroller and offers the best combination of price, features, safety, and the quality of your baby’s experience. The one-handed fold is also a breeze to use.

If you are willing to spend a bit more (and can handle the extra weight) then the Modes Duo is the most versatile double stroller. Plus that extra storage can be a lifesaver!

Don’t forget to also pick up one (or two) of the click connect infant car seats to get the best use out of your Graco double stroller.

What car seats work with Ready2Grow?

The Ready2Grow is only compatible with Graco brand infant car seats. We tested it with the Graco SnugRide Click Connect 35 and the Graco Snugride Click Connect 40. This Graco accepts two car seats and doesn't require any adapters.

What's the lightest double stroller?

Weighing in at just 23.5 pounds, the Joovy Caboose is the lightest tandem stroller on the market and one of the most compact.

Will a Chicco car seat fit a Graco stroller?

Graco strollers are only compatible with Graco infant car seats.
