Richmond, VA (WRIC) – A quiet night is on tap for us before the nasty storm over the nation’s midsection brings up a cold and rainy Thursday over most of Virginia with some icy weather to the west of us. Show  Tonight, will be fair and brisk as the overnight lows fall into the range of 23-28 degrees. Clouds are on the increase tomorrow and it will be another seasonably cool day for the area with highs in the mid to upper 40s. Tomorrow night the storm from the west is going to be moving into the area. We are going to see rain overspreading the area. However, the air aloft over us will be above freezing, but out over the mountains, the valley and to the west of us in the Piedmont, the air at the ground will be below freezing. This is going to result in the risk of sleet and freezing rain once temperatures drop. A Winter Storm Watch is in effect to over parts of the Valley and in the Blue Ridge Mountains. Watch for Advisories to be issued to the east, maybe as far as US-522 tomorrow. The sleet and freezing rain mix could extend all the way east to the Hanover-Louisa border, but that will be just for a short period of time on Thursday morning. The greater icing risk is west of US-15. Here, we will be in for a good soaking rain with highs in the 40s. And it will be warmer to the east. This storm will move off to New England for Friday. Don’t be fooled by the mild air on Friday afternoon as much cooler air will come into the region for the weekend. Highs are only going to be in the 40s, and lows in the 20s. The early part of next week is quiet, with a small risk of a shower on Tuesday. Another big storm for the nation’s midsection next week, but the track of this storm right now favors rain for us.
