Studying the night before an exam? A distraction is the last thing you need. Don’t let anything pull your focus with Do not disturb. It mutes all alerts on your phone when you really need some peace and quiet. You can also set Do not disturb to turn on or off automatically at scheduled times. Of course, you can always set certain alerts as exceptions so you don’t miss an important call.

Open the Quick settings panel by swiping down from the top of the screen. Swipe to and tap the Do not disturb icon to turn it on or off.

  4. Enter a title and your desired preferences, and then tap Save.

  6. Repeat the process as many times as needed, so you won't be disturbed during the times you need to focus.

When you want to turn on Do not disturb mode to concentrate but are expecting an important call, you can allow exceptions and customize what alerts you receive.

  3. Swipe to the Exceptions section, and then select from the displayed options.

    • Calls, messages, and conversations:

      Allow calls and messages from any contact, favorite contacts, or anyone to bypass Do not disturb.

      You can also allow repeated calls through.

    • Alarms and sounds:

      Alarms and media sounds are enabled by default, but you can also choose to allow touch sounds, calendar events, and reminders though.

    • Apps:

      You can select specific apps that will be able to notify you when Do not disturb is enabled.

  4. You can also control what notifications are hidden by tapping Hide notifications. Critical notifications about phone activity or status will never be hidden.

    • Hide all:

      All notifications that are not subject to an exception will be hidden.

    • When the screen is off:

      Full screen notifications, like phone calls, can be disabled.

    • When the screen is on:

      You can prevent notifications from appearing as icon badges, in the notification panel, in the status bar, and in pop-ups.
