I'll make it short: you can replace the background of a photo without the need for in-depth Photoshop skills. In fact, you don't need any photo editing skills at all. How can this be? Show
"This photo is perfect except for the background which is..."well, let's just say "bad". Have you ever had a thought like this? You have probably even made an attempt or two to edit the picture with the ruined background in a photo editor, to no avail. Surely, not all of us are designers or at least IT savvy. So, here is a way for the rest of humanity to change the background scene of any photograph – the PhotoScissors online tool. Step 1: Select the photo you want to editOpen PhotoScissors online, click the Upload button then select an image file. The program will remove the background from an image and display it in the browser:
The left part of the screen is for editing, while the right part displays the final result. Normally, you would have to tinker with various selection tools, but PhotoScissors automatically removes the background from an image for you, and even if neural networks makes a mistake, you can correct the result using green marker and eraser tools. Simple, right? Green mask shows the objects that should stay. When you change the mask, the preview on the right side reflects any changes you make. By default, PhotoScissors applies a transparent background to the picture, but you can change it to white or any other color or even another image. Step 2: Change the backgroundYou can keep background transparent or change it to any color or even set another image as new background. Switch to the "Background" tab in the right side and select appropriate mode:
Nice! This background looks much better. And that didn't take too long. Finally, save the photo with the replaced background by clicking the "Download" button on the top toolbar. Customer Feedback:
Did you know that the most important thing in creating a black background is not a black cloth, wall or backdrop? there are many ways you can recreate that dark atmosphere.
What If Your Backgrounds Never Look BlackWhat we see with our eyes and what our cameras record can be very different. Our eyes
see a wider range of tone and light values than our cameras can record in a single exposure. Figuring Out When the Light Is RightOur modern digital cameras are capable to record a very wide dynamic range. Early digital cameras and all film were able to capture a more limited range of tones in a single frame. Try Squinting! To help you see if there will be enough contrast in a scene, squint your eyes and look at the scene. When you squint. you will not see much of the detail in the darker areas. Highlights will stand out more. What Will Affect Your Black BackgroundsThese factors will determine how dark the background will be:
When there is more light on your subject, you will be able to get the background very dark. How to Set Up Black Background PortraitsI use a black background when I am making portraits. I only have limited experience with still life or other
styles. But you can use this method with any subject you wish to photograph. Using Natural LightIf you are indoors and using natural light, you can position your subject close to an open door or window. Close all the other doors and window coverings. Turn off any electric lights. You want the room to
be as dark as possible. Using Studio Strobes, Flash or a Continuous Electric Light SourceWhen you work with electric light sources you have more control. This goes double if you have more than one light. The same main principle applies as with using natural light. You must have more light falling on your subject than on the
background. How to Control the Light and Your ExposureIn an ideal situation, you should control your light and exposure. Having your camera and lights set to
auto will provide disappointing results.
Light-skinned or light haired subjects are easier to separate from the dark background. Darker skinned subjects or those with dark hair will need more light. Look for Black Backgrounds in Everyday SituationsYou do not always need to be in control of the lighting to make black background photography work. I love finding everyday situations where I can make black background portraits. Photo By: Kevin Landwer-JohanYou can look for someone with a dark background behind them. This woman with the most wonderful smile sells steamed fish in our local market. This portrait of a young woman and an elephant has a natural black background. This is because they were in front of a large open building with a high ceiling. The bright sun is behind them and is reflecting off the white pavement in front of her. Post-Processing Black Background PhotographySometimes the light value on your subject is not too different from your background. In these cases, you will need to manipulate the background to make it darker. Using Lightroom and Photoshop to Recreate Black BackgroundsThe controls I use most to tweak my backgrounds are:
I use Adobe Lightroom and Photoshop. You can apply these techniques in whatever software you use though. How to Use the Photoshop Burn ToolAt times I find the burn tool in Photoshop more effective. I will use this on a very low exposure level. Usually about ten percent. I will also set the burn tool range to shadows. In this setting, the tool will affect darker parts of the image
more than light areas. If you overlap a little when the range is set to shadows, it will have less effect on your subject. ConclusionAs with so much in photography, black background photographs depend on how you can see the light. Look for when there is more light on the subject than the background. Look at the shadows. And at how the light falls on your subject. How do I make the background of a picture black?Open the app, choose “Cut Photo” > “Gallery” to get the photo from your phone gallery.
