After releasing the top lever on the passenger side seat, it will no longer lock back into it's original position. This is the lever that allows you to fold and slide the passenger seat forward for someone to get in the back seat. It should allow you to return the seat back into the same position it was in before. The slide part of the action will engage and lock in but the folding action does not lock. This second step needs to lock to keep the seat in the original position. Without the folding action locking the seat just goes back into the folded and pushed forward position.

I've found this thread (2-dr-jk-seat-wont-fold-slide-for-rear-passenger) and have inspected the sliding mechanism and everything seems to be working fine. I can't seem to figure out where the mechanics that lock the folding portion are. I've taken the back off the seat off thinking I could inspect the hinges that allow the folding action, but I can't really see anything. I couldn't see anything on the bottom part of the seat either.

Anyone have experience with this? I was hoping to just find some pin out of place or a broken cable that can be replaced. Not really looking forward to buying a whole new seat $$.

Rear seat won't fold forward

Hi Gang,

Just bought my first Jeep... 2000 TJ; nothing modified or altered. Happy so far, but I cannot figure out how to flip the rear seat forward. The top section folds down no problem, but the driver's side seems to be attached to the floor and won't budge. The manual says just flip it forward, but no go for me.

Anyone who knows the obvious magic words I'm missing please fill me in,

Thanks in advance.

There's a thing-a-ma-jig down there somewhere you have to yank on. But seriously, my back seat has been out for months and it's not going back in anytime soon. I don't think I have a flipper in my 98, I just remember folding the seat forward, pulling out a couple of pins and cir-clips and that old rear seat just fell right out. It's a beautiful rear seat but I need it not anymore.

For my 2005 the "fold and tumble" happens automatically: when I pull on the lever on the top back of the bench it releases two hooks on the rear bottom of the seat part that hold it to the floor, so it folds and tumbles forward in one move. If I want to remove the seat alltogether, once it is folded you can see a bent bar at the bottom of the seat portion (from the trunk), push/pull on that and the two hooks at the front bottom of the seat part (the one that pivots during the tumble forward) are released and you can wiggle the seat out.

If your first one move doesn't work it could be anything from your rear hooks are stiff or jammed (you can sort of access them from the trunk, but it's tight) all the way to the more complicated issue, some cable that links the top lever to the hooks is snapped.

Hope that helps!

I have a 2000TJ and their is a single latch to pull back to release on the bottom left hand side of the rear seat.

Re: Rear seat won't fold forward

I figured it out. The latch bolt was hanging up on the piece of metal attached to the wheel hub. I just had to nudge the seat over a little and it flipped up.

How do you adjust the passenger seat in a Jeep Wrangler?

The driver's seat height can be raised or lowered by using the ratcheting handle, located on the outboard side of the seat. Pull upward on the handle to raise the seat, push downward on the handle to lower the seat. Several strokes may be necessary to achieve the desired position.

Do Jeep front seats fold down?

Some Jeep Liberty front passenger seats fold completely flat.
