The 97-01 do not have tabs. Just those washers. They are not easy to remove. IIRC, those posts serve no other purpose than to capture those washers, and can be cut down just above the washer to make removing said washer a little easier as it has less distance to travel, and less post to work around in general. A small screwdriver, or even a dental pik should work. Its a slow and delicate/tedious process, but can be done without damage. Also, all the posts ive seen were hollow, so you may be able to use a screw to hold it together afterwards. What size i have no clue as i have never tried the screw trick. But its still an option.

1. Find the HVAC blower motor under the passenger's side floor mat

2. Disconnect blower assembly and remove screws

3. Pull aside the right side of the dashboard assembly and install the new blower motor

4. Reconnect the resistor and re-install dashboard with the bolts

5. Attach the blower motor assembly with the screws (which includes the blower motor resistor, recirculation motor, and the blower motor)

6. Turn on the car and the A/C system. Verify that the blower motor could work at all speed and produce hot or cold air
