Crankshaft Position Sensor Location

Looking for the crankshaft/speed sensor location on my 2007 Audi Q7.

Which motor?

I have the 4.2L It is at the bottom center of the motor. It is easy to get out, but the connector is in a place you can't get to it from the bottom. I found a path through the passenger side wheel housing that I could get my hands to it.

Where is my crank position sensor located?

The Crank position sensor is usually mounted in the crankcase over the toothed wheel on the crankshaft. The Camshaft position sensor is usually mounted in line with the toothed wheel on the end of the camshaft. It is usually hidden under the timing chain cover on the front of the engine.

What happens when crank angle sensor fails?

An erratic CKP sensor can cause the PCM to miscalculate fuel injector pulse and spark timing, resulting in an engine that runs rough and misfires. As the driver, you'll likely interpret the misfire as a subtle shaking or stumble that may intensify when the vehicle is under load.

Can you replace a crankshaft position sensor by yourself?

While the crankshaft position sensor is a pretty sophisticated piece of equipment, and you might be intimidated by the idea of replacing it yourself, you probably shouldn't be. With a good set of instructions, the right tools, and some effort, you can replace your crankshaft sensor yourself.
