About time to take my lady in for her first oil change. I've had the car for one year (though the manual says first change at 2 years)...Just wanted to see what you guys are paying for oil changes (I have a GT) I know there can be regional variation.

Local dealer quoted me $680 for the oil change here in NC. They also suggested changing the differential fluid and some other fluid, which quite frankly didn't seem right....just wanted to see if this was decent price.

Seems like all i would need is an oil change at the one year mark right??

Thanks in advance

I find myself in a quagmire on how to advise you. First, I'm thinking you are probably under warranty, and I'm an independent. So I don't even know what the warranty requirements would be. Meaning are you able to use an Independent or should something go wrong would they hold that against you and deny the warranty claim? I don't mean go wrong with changing the oil. I mean, you get the oil done, a few hundred miles later something goes wrong....Are you under warranty and how do they handle that part?

I know some Manufacturers just Mass. spec. the oil to verify it's of the type that needs to be in the car. If that's all they would do you would be fine to go to an Independent. Make sure they use that type of oil in the car. $680 in my mind is a bit too much. That's just me. I find you would probably pay about half of that at an Independent.

As to Gear box fluid, you have a maintenance schedule that came with the GT. Check the mileage interval for their recommended change period. If it's there follow it, again especially if it's under warranty. This is also where you'll find the specific oil they recommend.

If it's not under warranty you can use any name brand synthetic oil, in both situations. Obviously you'll use the weight/type recommended. But when it comes to brands, and I don't want to start an oil thread, any name brand will be fine that's of that spec. of the oil.

I think it's Shell Helix Ultra 5w-40 on the oil but again, check it to make sure. Most shops can get it, or order it.

The Maserati dealer here in Calgary charges 700$ for an oil change but I found an Indy that charges 300$. Same oil. Apparently good for 17k km if the car isn't sitting and daily driven. I found the brake job to be quite expensive since the emergency brake needs to be serviced as well to avoid rust and corrosion. Apparently, the little boots latch onto the rotors when the emergency brake auto engages. If they aren't serviced they can stick to the rotor and cause bigger expensive problems. That was my understanding anyway

Just to compare with European prices. Just paid 445 €, oil and original filter, to have oil changed on my QP. Equals to 490 US$. Shell Helix Ultra racing 10W60

Thanks guys....

its nice to see some price comparisons. I have a couple dealers by me so i might ask around to see what they charge. The $680 seemed steep to me.

As far as doing it myself, i'm constrained by where i live (downtown, condo building, no room to work, etc.) Also with this being my first real high end car I'd really just rather let a pro do it....

being that the car is under warranty the dealer mentioned how i'd maybe want to consider making the "resale" aspect. I think i'm going to keep the car for a few years so it may not matter as long as i have documentation from an indy shop....

Thanks for the advice thus far. If anyone has had good/bad personal experience from their dealers on costs I'd love to hear more....

We do offer oil change kits for all Maserati's that come with a factory oil filter, crush washers and the factory oil which typically can only be ordered by the 55 gallon drum and isn't available in stores. You can either do the work yourself or provide the parts to an independent if they don't have easy access to it but if you're under warranty you will want to be sure to use only the factory oil to help avoid warranty issues. The dealers don't have a monopoly on oil changes but will require that factory spec parts / lubricants are used for warranty coverage. We also offer the 10W60 Ferrari Spec oil for an additional cost, if desired.

We offer a 3 year / 36k miles - Service kit that will save you quite a bit over the dealer and may be more convenient for service.

Which local dealer?

I've had my oil changed at Leith in Raleigh and recently at Johnson in Cary; both were around $320 for a 2006 GS Spyder. I can't imagine a GT being that much more.

Just did one at the local old school indy it cost $170 I provided filter washers and oil.he also lubed the front sway bar as it would creak when cold, he also cleaned the block where the cam cover is weaping a little.

There is no way I would wait 2 years, max would be 6- 12 months. I did mine 6 months ago and boy you can hear and feel the difference once changed. Fifth gear the u k to show did a segment on oil changes and it is well worth hunting down to understand just how important clean oil is to the wear factor on your car.

To provide another reference = oil change in Japan.

- Maserati dealership = US$128 + $24 pr liter of oil x 10 liters = $368
- my small garage = US$80 + $23 pr liter of oil x 9 liters = $285

The other fluids can make a difference ($172 for 4 liters of the official Maserati coolant liquid !), but indeed one year seems early to change anything else than oil.

How often does a Maserati need an oil change?

So after you drive off in a brand new model, you might wonder “How often should you change your oil?” Most Maserati vehicles have a recommended oil change frequency of 10,000 to 15,000 miles with synthetic oil to operate at peak performance.

Are Maseratis cheap to maintain?

Maseratis are appealing cars, but should only be bought for a daily driver by those who have the dollars to spare. Why? Because, they are expensive to maintain; and even if you do it yourself, the parts are foreign and pricey.
