Many Toyota Highlander models are equipped with maintenance reminder systems that alert the driver when regular maintenance should be done. Oil changes are the most common reason for the maintenance reminder to illuminate. When the oil is changed by a Toyota dealer, the light should get reset as part of the process. You can reset the maintenance required light yourself if your mechanic does not reset it or if you perform the maintenance yourself.

Step 1

Turn the ignition switch to the "On" position but do not crank the engine.

Step 2

Press the odometer button until the total mileage shows on the display.

Step 3

Turn the ignition switch off.

Step 4

Press and hold the odometer button. Turn the ignition on again.

Step 5

Release the odometer button when the maintenance required light blinks a few times then disappears.

2008-2015

1. With vehicle ignition switched to ON position, make sure odometer is showing “Tripmeter A”, then turn the ignition switch to OFF position
2. Push and hold the TRIP reset or MODE button
3. While holding reset button, switch ignition to ON position

**w/ ENGINE START/STOP button, keep your foot off brake pedal and push ENGINE START/STOP button twice to get Key On/ Engine Off mode

1. With vehicle ignition switched to ON position, make sure odometer reading is shown, then turn the ignition switch to OFF position
2. While holding reset button, switch ignition to ON position

When engine oil needs to replace, the MAINT REQD message will appear on display. I just replaced the engine oil and what I need to do is reset the maintenance interval lights. How To Reset Maintenance Required Light in Toyota Highlander

Time needed: 3 minutes.

In this section, I’ll show you how to reset the maintenance-required light on Toyota Highlander with the Trip button. So let’s get started:

1. Turn the key to the on position

   If your vehicle has an ignition button, press the START/STOP button two tomes without stepping on the brake pedal

2. Make sure you are on the TRIP A display

   We need to get this to TRIP A, so you’ll press the ODO/TRIP button on the instrument cluster until you get that to TRIP A
   

   

3. Next, turn off your car

   Once that’s where you’ll turn the ignition off

4. Hold down the ODO/TRIP button while turning on the ignition again

   After that, press and hold that same button that we were using while you turn the ignition to the on position again

5. Continue to hold the ODO/TRIP button

   Keep hold down the button until it says resetting maintenance data and once that says complete you’re good to go

Resetting the Oil Light With Steering Button

For 2015 models and above, the Highlander is also equipped with a multi-information display. You can use this method as an alternative to the first method. So the first thing you’re going to do is:

• First, turn on your car
• Then scroll over to the right until you get to the ⚙️ (gear) symbol

• After that, scroll down until you see Maintenance System or Schedule Maintenance
• Next, press the center button to enter the menu
• At this point, the system will ask you to “Reset Data?”
• To confirm it select YES

How rugged is the Toyota Highlander?

Toyota is recognized for making long-lasting vehicles, and the Highlander is no exception. Even after covering 300K miles on their cars, many owners haven’t needed substantial repairs like an engine or transmission rebuild.

You must service your car at the proper intervals to reach this level. Older vehicles using conventional oil need to have their oil changed every 3,000 to 5,000 miles, whereas newer models using synthetic oil only need to change their oil every 7,500 to 10,000 miles or so. You should examine the ball joints, coolant, and transfer case oil every 15,000 miles or 18 months, whichever arrives first. The cabin and engine air filters should be replaced every 30,000 miles or 36 months.
