How to sign up for prime student with existing account

Heading back to school means being well supplied, especially if you're a college student. Whether it's fresh notebooks and a new backpack or full linen sets, hitting the books means stocking up. One way to save money is by signing up for Amazon Prime Student(opens in a new tab), which anyone with a .edu email address can do for four years or until graduation (whichever comes first.)

The best part? You can get the first six totally months free(opens in a new tab).

With a Prime Student(opens in a new tab) account, you get all the expected benefits, like unlimited streaming of movies and TV shows on Prime, free 2-day shipping on eligible purchases, access to Prime Music, and unlimited photo storage with Prime Photos. Oh yeah and you'll also get access to exclusive sales — lots and lots of sales.

In order to sign up, you'll need a valid .edu email. After the 6-month free trial, it will cost either $6.49/month or $59/year(opens in a new tab) up through graduation. For context, normal Prime costs $12.99/month or $119/year(opens in a new tab), so this highlights just how much you can save being a student. Keep in mind though that Prime Student benefits cannot be shared like a standard Prime account. Once your free trial is up, the paid account will kick in.

Here's how you sign up:

Step 1: Go to Amazon(opens in a new tab) and enter your email or phone number

If you don't have a .edu email, you'll need to send Amazon an email with your school documentation, such as a school ID or class list, to [email protected] This will allow you to be verified by Amazon for a Prime Student(opens in a new tab) account despite your lack of a .edu address.

Step 3: Enter your credit card information

Once your 6-month free trial expires, Amazon will charge the card you entered during the set up. If you don't want to be charged, simply cancel your account before those six months are up.
