How to transfer money from one chime account to another

Peer-to-peer payment systems (also referred to as P2P payments) allow users to send and transfer money from their mobile devices through a linked bank account or card. This make splitting bills fast and painless and are relatively easy to set up. You choose who you are sending money to, the amount of the transaction, and the  reason for payment, then send. Depending on which P2P payment service you use, the time it takes for money to transfer can range anywhere from a few seconds to three business days. Some of the most popular P2P options are PayPal, Venmo, Zelle, Google Pay, and Cash App.

1. PayPal

👍 Benefits:

PayPal offers many different functions – with the most popular being payment services for online merchants and buyers. But PayPal also offers P2P money transfers for registered users. It’s free to send and receive money when you link a bank account, debit card, or prepaid debit card.

👎 Drawbacks:

Transfers can take some time to move to and from your bank account to your PayPal account. Free transfers from PayPal to your bank account usually take one business day, but can take up to three to five business days depending on your bank’s clearing process.

2. Venmo

👍 Benefits:

Venmo is owned by PayPal, however the two apps are very different. Venmo is designed primarily to send money to friends, with an embedded social aspect. And, while you can sign in and access your account on the internet, it is a mobile-first experience.

👎 Drawbacks:

There are a few types of fees: one to send money via credit card, one e for instant cash-out transfers to your bank account, and a 1% fee if you want to transfer your Venmo funds instantly to your bank account. Otherwise, you’ll have to wait one to three business days to receive your funds for free.

3. Zelle

👍 Benefits:

Zelle can send and deliver money within minutes between bank accounts at different financial institutions. And unlike other P2P apps listed, Zelle’s service might already be on your smartphone. If your bank isn’t part of the network, Zelle is also available as a standalone app.

👎 Drawbacks:

You can’t send money to international bank accounts because Zelle only works with domestic banks. You also can’t use a credit card to send money –  a feature that’s available with other   P2P payment apps.

4. Google Pay

👍 Benefits:

Google Pay is unique in its integrations with other Google products, including Gmail. If you have a Google account, you are essentially already signed up for Google Pay. The app can be downloaded to Android and Apple devices and allows users to send each other money as well as pay retailers for goods and services.

👎 Drawbacks:

Google Pay doesn’t allow users to link credit cards as a form of payment and is only available in the United States. For U.S. territories, Google Pay is only supported if a linked debit card is issued by a U.S.-licensed bank.

5. Cash App

👍 Benefits:

Cash App has a wallet feature that allows you to send money from a linked account without holding funds in your digital wallet. Cash App recently added the ability to buy and sell bitcoins to the app as well, which gives it a unique feature compared to other P2P apps.

👎 Drawbacks:

There’s a 3% fee to send money via credit card and a fee for instant deposits. Cash App offers free standard cash outs — which take one to three business days to deposit to your linked debit card — but if you want an instant cash out deposit, Cash App will charge a 1.5% fee.

There are plenty of peer-to-peer (P2P) apps out there that you can use to send money. And if you’re not a Chime member yet, you might even be using some of them.

Here’s a quick rundown of how Pay Anyone measures up against other money transfer apps.

Pay Anyone vs. Venmo

Venmo is a mobile wallet app that you can use to send money to friends and family. The main difference is that to transfer money with Venmo, you first need to link it to your bank account, debit card, or credit card.

With Pay Anyone, you don’t have to take that extra step since you’re already a Chime member. All you have to do is log in, select the person you want to send, choose an amount and hit “Pay.”

Venmo charges fees to send and receive payments in some situations, while Pay Anyone doesn’t. For example, you’ll pay a 3% fee on Venmo to send money to people using your credit card and a 1% fee to receive direct deposit of your paycheck into your account. Venmo also charges instant transfer fees at a rate of 1.75% (up to $25)*, while Pay Anyone always lets you cash out fee-free.

Pay Anyone vs. Zelle

Zelle lets you send money instantly from your bank account to other people with Zelle accounts using an email address or phone number. If your bank doesn’t offer Zelle, you can still enroll using your debit card number through the Zelle mobile app.

Zelle doesn’t charge any fees to send or receive money. But if you’re using it through your bank, the bank might charge a fee. Again, Chime doesn’t charge fees for Pay Anyone transfers. Unlike Chime, Zelle requires both the payer and the recipient to have Zelle accounts to send money.

Pay Anyone vs. Cash App

Cash App is a mobile payment service that you can link to a debit card or bank account. You can use Cash App to send money, receive it, pay bills, or even invest in stocks and cryptocurrency.

Cash App has many features, but it still requires both the payment sender and recipient to have Cash App accounts to send and receive money.

Fraud can also be a concern when using Cash App. In fact, Cash App fraud increased by 300% from 2020 to 2021, according to data from Apptopia. With its live support and security features, Pay Anyone provides peace of mind when paying friends and family.

Like Venmo, Cash App also charges instant cash out fees∼ if you want your funds deposited to your bank account right away.

Bottom line? Pay Anyone through Chime can replace all the other money transfer apps you’re using and help you clear out the financial clutter. You can send money to friends and family without them downloading an app or going through the signup process.

Can you transfer money from Chime to another Chime account?

Pay Anyone transfers to existing Chime members occur instantly, and the funds that you send appear immediately in your friend's Chime Checking Account. Because transfers are processed in such a short amount of time, they cannot be cancelled or reversed.
We don't currently offer joint accounts or secondary cards. We understand the importance of sharing an account with a spouse or a dependent so we're actively working on this feature.

How do I instantly transfer money to Chime?

Make an instant transfer This option is available the first time you add money to your Chime Checking Account. All you have to do is link an external bank account, and add your debit card number, then you'll be able to add at least $200–instantly.

How long does it take Chime to transfer money to another account?

You can set up the transfer with the sending bank, and the receiving bank will receive the transfer after about 2 or 3 business days (the timing will depend on the bank and whether you are transferring money locally or internationally). Log in to your bank's website or app.
