When you are outside of your wireless carrier's network, higher charges are imposed for services such as multimedia messaging (MMS), Web browsing, voice and text messaging. Turning off Voice Roaming and Data Roaming decrease the chances of excessively high bills.

1. Touch "Settings" on your iPhone's home screen and touch "General" from the Settings screen.

2. Choose "Network" to load the Roaming Settings.

3. Touch the "Data Roaming" button to disable data roaming while traveling to avoid charges with services such as Web browsing and picture messaging.

4. Touch the "Voice Roaming" button to turn off voice roaming. Turning off Voice Roaming.

5. Press the Home button to turn to the home screen.
