If you’ve wanted to get a remote job but think you can’t because you have an old, outdated computer, don’t worry. There are a few companies out there that will send you a computer.

Also, most companies that hire remote employees will list their technical requirements somewhere in the job posting, stating the specs your computer should have. A good indicator that a company supplies equipment is if they don’t list any computer requirements.

Equipment Needed to Work From Home

Here are the basics needed to work from home. But keep in mind every company will have its own requirements so be sure to read them carefully.

• A dedicated, quiet, distraction-free work area with a door that can be closed and locked. 
• A newer (no more than 5 to 7 years old) desktop PC or laptop with a Windows operating system. 
• Updated browser, virus protection, and a firewall.

What if You Don’t Have a Computer?

It’s important to remember the equipment sent to you is not yours to keep. Should you terminate your employment, the company will want everything sent back to them, so make sure to take care of it.
