This versatile mattress could appeal to several types of sleepers, but it won’t be a fit for everyone. Here’s an overview of who might like the Zinus Hybrid — and who might not. Zinus Hybrid Mattress Firmness And FeelWhen it comes to finding the ideal mattress, two of the most important factors to consider are firmness and feel. Let’s take a look at what it’s like to sleep on top of the Zinus Hybrid. How Firm Is The Zinus Hybrid? We ranked the Zinus Hybrid around a 6/10 on the firmness scale. The industry standard for medium firmness is 6.5/10, so this suggests the mattress is a touch softer than medium-firm; that’s thanks in part to the thick comfort layer on top of the mattress. Note that a person’s body weight can impact their sense of a mattress’s firmness. For instance, lighter people might find the Zinus Hybrid to be even softer than we did because they probably won’t press through the comfort layer enough to feel the firmer layers underneath. The Zinus is a cooling, comfortable hybrid mattress that is also a fantastic value. Sleeping On The Zinus Hybrid MattressWhile back sleeping on the Zinus Hybrid, we felt a good balance of comfort and support – the memory foam layer provides some nice body contouring, while the coils help keep the hips elevated and aligned with the spine. Moving to our side, we felt good pressure relief on the Zinus Hybrid – the thick comfort layer cradled our shoulder and hip, which are common hot spots for side sleepers. We found the Zinus Hybrid to be too soft for stomach sleeping – our hips bowed into the mattress, which throws the spine out of alignment. Lightweight sleepers might get enough support in this position, but most stomach sleepers will want to look for a firmer mattress. RELATED: Best Mattress For Back Sleepers What Does The Zinus Hybrid Feel Like? While the Zinus Hybrid does contain coils, the thick memory foam comfort layer gives it a classic memory foam feel. It allows sleepers to sink into the comfort layer, contours the body, and has a slow response to pressure. For this reason, it’s not super easy to move around on top of the mattress. Average Weight Sleepers – 130 lbs – 230 lbsThe Zinus Hybrid should be a great match for average-weight back sleepers, because it provides a nice balance of pressure relief and spinal support. It could also be a good fit for side sleepers in this weight category; we found that it offered good pressure relief in this position. Most average-weight sleepers will find this mattress too soft to support healthy spinal alignment while stomach sleeping. Heavyweight Sleepers – Over 230 lbsThe Zinus Hybrid could be a decent match for heavier back sleepers who are close to 230 pounds, as the coils and memory foam balance support and comfort in this position. (That said, the mattress might not be supportive enough for folks who are much heavier.) Heavyweight side sleepers might feel too much pressure on this mattress, because they could press through the softer memory foam into the firmer support layers underneath. This mattress is not supportive enough for heavyweight stomach sleepers. Lightweight Sleepers – Under 130 lbsThe Zinus Hybrid should be a great fit for lightweight back sleepers, because it balances spinal support and pressure relief. Its thick comfort layer should also provide plenty of comfort to lightweight side sleepers. It’s possible that the mattress could be supportive enough for lightweight stomach sleepers, but most stomach sleepers will want to look for a firmer bed. Zinus Cooling Copper Adaptive Hybrid Mattress ConstructionNow that we have an understanding of what it feels like to lie on top of the Zinus, let’s take a look at what’s inside of it! We’ll review the bed’s construction here, and in the next section we’ll assess how that construction affects its performance. CoverThe Adaptive technology in the fabric cover helps regulate temperature by wicking away excess moisture. Comfort LayersThe first comfort layer is made up of 2″ of memory foam that’s infused with copper to help with cooling. This layer is also anti-microbial, and it’s infused with green tea to help reduce bedroom odors. The second comfort layer acts as a transition layer between the soft memory foam above and the firmer coils below. It’s made from 0.5″ of high-density foam. Support LayerThe Zinus Hybrid’s support layer is made from pocketed coils, which are wrapped individually to promote body contouring. The individually wrapped coils also help cut down on motion transfer across the surface of the bed. Beneath the coils, there’s a 0.5″ layer of high-density foam that provides support and structure for the mattress overall. Mattress HeightThe Zinus Cooling Copper Adaptive Hybrid comes in two heights: 10″ and 12″. We reviewed the 12″ model. The Zinus is a cooling, comfortable hybrid mattress that is also a fantastic value. Zinus Hybrid Mattress PerformanceAlright, it’s time to put this mattress to the test! We assessed this bed’s performance with regard to a variety of factors, including motion transfer, edge support, durability, and more. Let’s see how it did. Sleeping Hot Or ColdThe Zinus Hybrid does a decent job of sleeping cool. Its Adaptive cover helps dissipate heat and wick moisture from the surface of the mattress; the copper infusion in the memory foam layer also supports heat dissipation; the pocketed coils allow for airflow throughout the support layers of the mattress. All of these features contribute to a cooler, more comfortable sleep. Make sure to check out our list of the best cooling mattresses for more like the Zinus. Motion TransferIn our experience, the Zinus Cooling Copper Hybrid did a fantastic job of minimizing disturbance across the mattress. The thick memory foam layer and the individually wrapped pocketed coils absorb motion so that there’s barely any disturbance across the surface of the bed. This could be a great mattress for couples who don’t want to disturb each other during the night. Edge SupportThe Zinus Hybrid features an extra layer of thick foam around the edges, which is meant to shore up the edge support. However, in our experience, the edges collapsed when we sat down or laid near the edge of the bed. Based on that experience, we didn’t give this mattress high marks when it comes to edge support. DurabilityEven though this is more of a value mattress, we think it should offer reasonable durability. Expect this mattress to last approximately 5 years. Off-GassingWe did observe some off-gassing from the Zinus Hybrid, but it dissipated within a couple of days. NoiseIn our experience, this mattress isn’t very noisy at all. Even though it has coils, we didn’t observe any notable noise. SexWhen people seek out a mattress for sex, they’re usually concerned about whether it will be easy to move around on top of the bed. Based on that criterion, the Zinus Hybrid might not be the best match. It’s a bit hard to move around due to the enveloping memory foam. In the online mattress world to which the Zinus Hybrid belongs, other popular brands include Casper and Nectar. Let’s see how these beds compare to the Zinus Hybrid. Zinus Hybrid Vs. Original CasperThe Casper original mattress is one of the most popular online mattresses around. One of the primary differences between the original Casper and the Zinus Hybrid is found in their construction. While the Zinus layers memory foam over pocketed coils, the original Casper is an all-foam bed that features a proprietary foam layer over a memory foam layer with a Zoned Support system. This system creates a firmer feel around the hips and back (to support spinal alignment) while offering more pressure relief around the shoulders. These mattresses also differ in terms of feel. The Zinus has a slow-moving memory foam feel that cradles sleepers “in” the mattress. The Casper has more of a balanced foam feel, meaning sleepers won’t sink quite as deeply into the bed. When it comes to firmness, the Casper and Zinus Hybrid are distinct. We ranked the Zinus Hybrid around a 6/10 and the original Casper around a 7/10. The Zinus Hybrid is notably softer than the Casper. Finally, these mattresses differ significantly in terms of price. The Zinus Hybrid is more affordable than the Casper by about $700. Zinus Hybrid Vs. NectarNectar is another very popular bed-in-a-box mattress brand. The flagship Nectar mattress differs dramatically from the Zinus Hybrid when it comes to construction. While the Zinus Hybrid mattress features coils in its base layer, the Nectar is an all-foam mattress. Even though they’re constructed differently, the Nectar and Zinus Hybrid are fairly similar when it comes to feel. They both have a slow-moving, memory foam feel that offers body contouring and pressure relief. When it comes to firmness, we ranked the Zinus Hybrid around a 6/10 and the Nectar around a 6.5/10. This means the Zinus is a touch softer than the Nectar. These mattresses differ significantly when it comes to price. The Zinus Hybrid costs about $600 less than the Nectar.
